Detroit, Michigan and Holland, Michigan are two cities who currently have the HeartSafe Community program. To be a HeartSafe Community means there is access to public defibrillators (AEDs) and 15% of your population is trained in hands only CPR.

The City Of Grand Ledge, Meridian Township and others are doing the work to become a HeartSafe Community. ❤️ This is great news as more and more people are learning potentially life saving skills.

The Grand Ledge Fire Department is proud to partner with McLaren Greater Lansing and the McLaren Greater Lansing Foundation as we continue working toward making Grand Ledge a HEARTSafe Community.

A HEARTSafe Community is one that is better prepared to respond to sudden cardiac arrest through public access to AEDs, CPR awareness, and strong emergency response partnerships.

Early CPR and quick access to an AED can save lives before first responders arrive. This partnership helps strengthen the chain of survival for our residents, visitors, and families.

Thank you to McLaren Greater Lansing for supporting this lifesaving effort and investing in the safety of the Grand Ledge community.

The statistical probability of surviving a sudden cardiac arrest is approximately 5.5-7% if CPR is started immediately. However, when an AED shock is administered within the first minute, in conjunction with effective CPR, the chances of survival increase to nearly 80%. Additionally, for every minute that elapses without CPR/AED, the chance of survival decreases by approximately 10%. Our hope is that you will never need to apply the training we provide. Nevertheless, if you are ever faced with such a situation, we hope that you will be equipped to respond accordingly. Training is essential for preparation and preplanning, as you never know when you may be required to assist a family member, friend, or coworker.
