We’re honored to share that the Violence Prevention Center is being featured in an upcoming exhibit at the Cook County Historical Society: “Rural Women Lead the Way.”

Opening May 13, this exhibit highlights the strength, leadership, and lasting impact of women in our rural communities—including the work we’ve been doing alongside survivors for the past 40 years.

We invite you to stop in, learn more, and celebrate the powerful role rural women play in creating safer, more supportive communities. The exhibit opens on May 13 and will run through the summer at the Historical Society open daily from 10-4.

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month
This month—and every month—the Violence Prevention Center stands with survivors.
We’re incredibly grateful to our community partners, Java Moose, Cook County Whole Foods Co-Op, and Fika Coffee, for standing alongside the Violence Prevention Center in a visible way. Throughout April, stop in their shops to get a custom coffee sleeve to help spark conversations, raise awareness, and remind our community that support is always within reach.
Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) has roots going back decades, grounded in survivor-led movements working to end sexual violence and support those impacted. Since being nationally recognized in 2001, SAAM has grown into a time for communities across the country to come together—to listen, learn, and take action.
Every cup shared this month carries an important message: You are not alone.
Thank you for helping the Violence Prevention Center create a community where survivors are believed, supported, and empowered.

Jennifer Marsaw was described by loved ones as “a fun and outgoing woman” whose “greatest joy was spending time and making memories with her children.” Marzai Dawson, loved ones said, “will be remembered as a kind, gentle, humble boy whose smile could light
up a room and loved being with his siblings and playing with toy cars and trucks.”
