Results are in for the Jr. Visual Arts Scholastic Event!

School for the Highly Gifted brought home 11 Gold Medals with the Rating of Excellence (4): Azfar Ali, Zane Defoggi, Megan Finch, Blu Garcia, Jordan Krug, Paisley Landsdown, Lo Martinet, Dahlia Nguyen, Rebecca Peters, Kylie Pham, and Kaden Tran - OUTSTANDING!

Incidentally, each of our 8th grade students listed above received the highest points possible for Gold! DOUBLE OUTSTANDING!

We also had 3 pieces with the Rating of Strong (3): Abigail Barron, Heather Deselles, and two from Sophia Martinez - TRIPLE OUTSTANDING!

And finally, we received one Platinum Area Award for Region 10S from Dahlia Nguyen’s “Cake or Fake” sculpture. Congratulations Dahlia AND HOME RUN OUTSTANDING!

Congratulations to our 7th and 8th Grade NFTE Entrepreneurship 1 and Entrepreneurship 2 competitors!

For E1, congratulations to national finalist Lodias Martinet, founder of Style Selector, an app that generates outfit ideas based on any dress code and what you have in your very own closet. He will be pitching for seed money at the South Entrepreneurship Challenge on Friday, May 10th and will continue his entrepreneurial journey by competing in the NFTE Nationals competition in New York in October. The remaining semifinalists have been invited to participate in the NFTE Student EXPO at the Arts District Mansion in Dallas.

For E2, congrats to John Gaines and Nathan Gagakuma, founders of Food Secure, for winning 1st place with a reward of $1500. Congrats are also in order for Paisley Lansdown, founder of S(h)e Defense and Oluwafunmilayo Johnson, founder of Biralux, for both winning $500. All finalists have been invited to participate in the NFTE Student EXPO at the Arts District Mansion in Dallas.

SHG students competed in the 1st Annual Gingerbread House Decorating Contest with Dorothy Calhoun, longtime GPISD educator.
Dahlia Nguyen received 1st place and Great in Show. Aaira Masood, Carter Emrich, and Nathaniel Johnson received 2nd place. Thank you, Mrs. Giessner, for your support of our art students.
