Mark Hepworth for Grand Prairie Mayor

Mark Hepworth for Grand Prairie Mayor I am a 31 year Grand Prairie resident who has served 4 1/2 years on the City Council. I am excited to announce that I am running for the position of mayor.

05/12/2013

Dear friends, family and supporters,
The vote tabulations are in and our campaign finished 2nd in a 2 person race. I need to express my most heartfelt affection to all of you that worked so hard during these last many months. I am sad that we did not prevail but I am nearly equally proud of the type of campaign we ran. To my most beautiful wife, Deborah, I love you. My campaign inner circle consisting of my three sons: Kyle, Andrew and Adam as well as John Milburn and Bob Murphy.... I can not ever express the proper amount of gratitude and respect I have for you. If I went on to list each individual I am certain that I would offend someone by omission so I must wrap things up for the evening by simply stating I am grateful to be surrounded by such a warm and caring community. Your actions and encouragement have bolstered me during some particularly stressful times. My best wishes go out to our new Mayor - Ron Jensen. May you lead our City of Grand Prairie with strength and foresight and always remember that you work for the Citizens of Grand Prairie Texas. -Mark

Voting Locations and Times

Election Day Eve! We are almost there...and I need your help today and tomorrow to GET OUT THE VOTE. Polls will open at 7am Saturday morn and are open til 7pm. Check with your neighbor to the right and left, call 5 friends in your contact list and make sure they have voted or will go vote, ask an elderly person if they need a ride, stop at your neighbors when they are out in the yard and ask if they have voiced their opinion by voting for a new mayor for the 1st time in 21 years?! Your efforts will help bring home our victory tomorrow.

Thank you for taking a few moments of your time to ensure these last few months of campaigning are a great success. I can't wait to be your next mayor! Please share with every GP resident today and tomorrow:

Many of you now know that my opponent’s campaign has become increasingly negative. Grand Prairie deserves better than this. My opponent’s direct mailings and his backers have verbally attacked my family and labeled my supporters as “thugs”.

As promised from the very start, my campaign represents YOU and Grand Prairie’s positive growth. I am confident that we can prevail with your support based on merit and ideas alone, no unwarranted attacks or falsehoods.

Election Day is May 11th. Let your voice be heard and tell Mr. Jensen that there is no place in our community for this negativity.

A Minute with Mark: Setting the Record Straight

Good Monday morning and Happy Election Week! Here's the latest installment of my video series "A Minute with Mark." My opponent recently sent out a mailer telling our citizens that I plan to raise your taxes. This is yet another example of our city's elected officials refusing to listen (and furthermore, deliberately fabricating information to keep their system in place):

URGENT:
Let me set the record straight. My opponent’s latest mailer simply made things up and attacked me to attempt to derail my campaign to be your next Mayor.
1) I WILL NOT RAISE TAXES! Grand Prairie brings in more tax revenue than it spends. I have spoken directly about this topic at several forums and have said: “if we continue this trend, what do you (the citizens) want? Would you rather provide additional city services or have a TAX CUT?
2) My campaign board is comprised of my three sons, my wife and myself. We alone make all of our campaign literature decisions. We do not support nor would we ever allow negative campaigning, smear tactics or misinformation to be disseminated.
I want your help. I need YOUR VOTE. Let’s move our City of Grand Prairie forward, together.

04/30/2013

Lots of activities: joined Dallas County officials as they cut the ribbon on our new court house/county building, rock 'n rolled at the GP Main St Festival, visited with health fair attendees at Texas General Hospital, met folks at several different neighborhood garage sales over the weekend, walked neighborhoods, fired up our supporters at the RALLY, attended a somber and special April 30 Vietnamese Reunification Day ceremony at Asia Times Square, BBQ'd with the Rock Creek group, taped some new segments of a "Minute with Mark", and will serve up coffee and donuts to anyone who votes for me!

Good Friday Morning! This is my latest installment of "A Minute with Mark" in which I discuss my Community Input Program. Currently, little is being done on the end of the city to communicate with its citizens. Here are a few ways we can change this problem:

Grand Prairie draws scrutiny after renaming two more buildings after living, serving politicians

This is a great quick read published this morning in the Dallas Morning News discussing the Grand Prairie City Council Meeting last week and their decision to rename GP buildings after current councilmen. The two councilmen also did not abstain from the vote and actually voted for the name changes. Please share with your friends and family in GP, so we can end this system of entitlement: http://goo.gl/Psl0e

Fun, busy day...2 forums: one with Chase Bank clients and one with Metro-Tex Association of Realtors. Great questions from the attendees; enjoyed both events. Thanks to all who attended to hear my plans for the future of Grand Prairie as the next Mayor. Then, off to Brighter Tomorrows Chocolate 'n Chic fundraiser lunch with a powerful speaker who told her Domestic Violence story--one I will never forget. Finally, to the Summit for the GP Parks Board meeting and a quick swing by to visit at the WAC Baseball Tournament Preview Party.

Grand Prairie's Downtown Changing

My business has been located on Main St in Grand Prairie for over 14 years. Last summer Deborah and I renovated a 100-year-old building that now houses my investment firm--can't wait for the City to begin Phase 2 of the building facelift project. We love being small business owners in the heart of downtown Grand Prairie!

Grand Prairie is halfway through a $2 million renovation project to give its downtown a 1950s look.

With Mrs. Hepworth's 3rd grade class at Eisenhower Elementary GPISD. We talked about how city governments work; the students divided into 5 groups, each group selected a name for their city, elected their new town's mayor/council, discussed what important city services to provide for their citizens and presented their programs to their classmates. They did a great job and it was loads of fun!

GPISD CTE Advisory Dinner at Pioneer Event Center was a great night where CTE students showcased their talents for area business leaders who've been mentoring the students. Our young leaders showed us videos, performed a skit, emceed the whole evening, cooked for and served everyone and creating a very entertaining and informative program. Here I am with the Culinary Arts Top Chef/Instructor at Dubiski High School, Jason Hamilton.
