Joining GROW, with speeches and chants directed towards the imposing steel and glass frame of DeVos Place, was Palestine Solidarity Grand Rapids, the Grand Rapids Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression, Freedom Road Socialist Organization, and Michigan Senate District 29 candidate Iván Diaz.

“It’s important to show up in coalition as a candidate because as a grassroots organizer, I know we can’t do this work by ourselves,” said Diaz after the protest. “Bush and Clinton represent the bipartisan neoliberal, corporate and imperial order that we are seeking to disrupt and end. As a voter, I want the people who want to represent me to show up in exactly these kinds of spaces.”

Grand Rapids, MI - On the evening of June 2, more than 40 people showed up outside the entrance of Devos Hall to protest the visit of f...

Update: I have received notice in the mail that I am being cited for violating the city’s “Amplified Sound” ordinance because of the events in the video in the comments.

The problem with this ordinance is that it is not narrowly tailored enough to avoid legal challenges on free speech grounds.

We were not outside of a school or healthcare facility, and it was in the middle of the day on a sidewalk, therefore, the government cannot overcome Constitutional hurdles.

On top of that, the policy was not enforced equally.

Needless to say, we will be denying responsibility and moving forward accordingly.

The gap in access to high quality childcare from birth to five is something we've got to get serious about solving here in Michigan. While there are programs available, the barriers are increasingly hard to get through, making it near impossible for the working class to access.

Child care means a stronger working class: opportunities for caregivers to take higher paying jobs, earn promotions, and have autonomy in where and when they work.

Let's solve for a New Day for District 29. Vote for Ivan on August 4th to take this all the way.

We are proud to sign the pledge to not take any Dark Money or ANY corporate money.

Our corporate opponent is a political puppet for the Epstein Class and that is why he hasn’t signed the pledge.

It’s time for Government of, by & for the People.

“As the last of the dinner attendees filtered into DeVos Place, protesters began chanting, “War criminals out!”

Those still assembled shifted focus to “The People’s Indictment” protest organized by GROW, Palestine Solidarity Grand Rapids, Grand Rapids Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression and Freedom Road Socialist Organization Grand Rapids.

The protests began with an organizer speaking through a bullhorn before introducing Ivan Diaz, democratic candidate for Michigan Senate District 29 and former Kent County Commissioner. While Diaz was speaking, officers from GRPD’s bike patrol entered the assembly and surrounded him.

“Intimidation for sure and maybe attempting to instigate some kind of event where they could arrest some of us,” Diaz said after the incident. “I hope all the guests that showed up in their best clothes listen to what we are saying. I’m glad to see that there are people from various organizations that are coming out here to put aside their differences and make it clear that we are going to keep showing up when we have people who are war criminals or are selling out our country.””

Democrats in the State Senate are trying to make Michigan create its own health insurance market exchange.

Let me be clear: we don’t need more private insurance companies.

We need single-payer healthcare, so that every single Michigander gets affordable & accessible healthcare.
