~ A Brief History of Our Group ~
The Master's Voice Choir, under the direction of Carolyn Jenkins, was a “dream-come-true” for the man whose vision brought together a group of singers now celebrating their fifteenth year together. As [then] Director of the Granite City Parks District, Dave Polivick dreamed of a July 4th celebration with a 100-voice Choir whose patriotic music would kick off the
giant fireworks display. Since that time, The Master’s Voice Choir has performed at every Fourth of July celebration (both here and in Edwardsville, Illinois), presented annual Christmas concerts in various locales, have sung “The National Anthem” at several St. Louis Cardinals baseball games, and were honored to participate in the festivities for the Lewis and Clark Commemorative Celebrations in 2004. But the concerts that seem to elicit the greatest anticipation and fondest memories for The Choir members themselves are the annual "Dave Polivick Memorial Gospel Concert" events, held each spring to honor the choir's inspiration and founder, Mr. Polivick, who died of cancer just a few years after the choir's inception. The Choir is comprised of members from a diverse range of church affiliations and backgrounds, and several members even live in neighboring towns. Yet, through the gift of music, this group of singers, musicians, and prayer warriors has formed a close-knit bond of hearts, minds, and spirits whose unity is fully realized when they come together in song.
