MEREDITH JANE WILSON
Caldwell County School Board
Practical Leadership. Local Solutions. Strong Schools.
I have a plan to support Caldwell students and families.
• Special education access
• Equal opportunity across schools
• Trades & workforce readiness
• Responsible Al literacy
• Creative engagement
Here's what I'm hearing from parents:
• Families of special needs students are traveling to other counties for services.
We should explore expanding special education programs here at home.
Schools across the county don't have equal access to programs and resources.
I support exploring magnet schools to balance opportunity and strengthen every campus.
• Students need more creative, engaging learning experiences.
Education should inspire curiosity- not just test scores.
• We must prepare students for the real world.
Trade careers, college pathways, and responsible Al literacy should all be part of the conversation.
I'm a proud graduate of:
• West Caldwell High School
• CCC&TI (Massage Therapy & Welding Technology)
• Currently earning my Bachelor's at Appalachian State
I believe in practical solutions, strong schools, and preparing students for the future they are actually walking into.
Let's build schools that work for every family in Caldwell County.

If you’re interested in my ideas, below is my written presentation from the CCRWC meeting. If you have any questions please reach out- I would love to talk!

Good Evening- I’m Meredith Wilson. One thing I have heard many families talk about is the lack of services available for special needs students in our county. Parents have to travel to neighboring counties for their children to participate in special needs educational programs which can put a strain on already busy mornings. I would like to explore expanding our special needs education in our county to keep these students in our schools. I’ve also heard concerns regarding inequality in resources and programs available at schools throughout the county- I have a plan to help address this which involves creating magnet schools. Magnet schools would equalize opportunities for all students by offering specialized programs- for instance a school could be designated as a language arts school or a STEM school which would incentivize students to stay at their home school and help balance school attendance across the county. These improvements would also make our county more attractive to families looking for a place to raise their children.

Students also need to have more creative learning and activities to keep their attention and make learning fun again.
I’m a huge proponent of the trades having worked as a welder. I believe it’s important for all of our high school students to be aware of the many opportunities they can avail themselves to.

I know firsthand how important an education is and the doors that it opens for you. I am a proud graduate from West Caldwell high school I’m a two time graduate from CCC&TI, earning a certificate in massage therapy in 2010 and more recently my Applied Associates in Welding Technology. This also inspired me to continue my education and I am currently enrolled at App State working towards my bachelors degree.

We need to ensure our students are prepared for the future they are graduating into. It is not the same world that we once knew - AI is quickly becoming the dominating force of the future, with resumes requiring AI optimization to be competitive. We have more tools available to our students than ever before and we need to ensure they know how to wield these tools responsibly. This requires innovation and a new perspective which I bring.

A couple of weeks ago, I had the opportunity to answer a series of questions from a local reporter about my vision and priorities for our schools. Unfortunately, that article will no longer be published, but I still want to share my answers with our community. I’ll make my way through the questions and post one a day, along with my responses. My hope is that this helps us to get to know each other better. I want to invite your feedback and questions as well. Thank you for being here and caring about the future of our children and community!

I want to thank everyone again for the support I’ve received. It genuinely means so much. I believe strong schools are built through community, and it takes all of us working together to make meaningful progress. I would love to hear from parents, educators, and students about their hopes for the future of our schools. What’s working well? What could be better? What would you like to see change? My goal is to represent Caldwell County families and those working in our schools to help create positive, sustainable improvements.

Hi, I’m Meredith- a Caldwell County mom, trade-school graduate, and community member who cares deeply about the future of our kids. After helping establish an apprenticeship program with ApprenticeNC and CCC&TI, I saw how powerful it is when students understand all their career pathways; not just college, but trades and technical programs too.

As a neurodivergent person and parent, I’m especially passionate about mental health support and making sure our special-needs students are seen, supported, and celebrated.

I’m running for School Board because I believe every child in Caldwell County deserves a strong education, real opportunities, and a community that stands behind them.
