With May being Mental Health Aware Month, we just want to remind everyone that mental health matters. Life gets busy and stressful, and it is important to take care of yourself, mentally and emotionally, not just physically.

Here are some tips for managing day-to-day stress:
*The 3-3-3 Rule: When overwhelmed, name three things you see and three sounds you hear, then move three body parts. This quickly centers your mind in the present.

*Set Digital Boundaries: Limit doomscrolling and turn off work notifications after hours to protect your time and energy.

*Get Moving: Physical activity lowers stress hormones. Even a brisk 30-minute walk provides a natural mood boost.

*Practice Gratitude: Write down three things you are grateful for each day to help shift focus away from negative thoughts.

*Prioritize Sleep: Create a relaxing bedtime routine to consistently get 7–9 hours of sleep, which helps regulate stress hormones.

When you start to feel the impact of stress, take some time to rest, talk to someone you trust or simply check in with yourself. We all need support sometimes and that's okay!

GROUNDED Community Emergency and Disaster Response Training (Psychological 1st Aid)

Options for Southern Oregon is pleased to offer a new training opportunity in partnership with the Oregon Health Authority and the Oregon Department of Human Services (ODHS) Office of Resilience and Emergency Management (OREM).

As part of our regional preparedness efforts and our shared commitment to supporting community members during community-wide emergencies and disasters, we invite you to participate in the Grounded Response Offering Understanding and Navigation During Emergencies and Disasters (GROUNDED) training (formerly IDEA / Psychological First Aid).

This training provides practical tools for offering compassionate, trauma-informed emotional support to individuals and communities impacted by community-wide emergencies, disasters, and crisis events such as wildfires, mass casualty incidents, public health emergencies, or other events that disrupt community safety and wellbeing. A Train-the-Trainer session will also be available for select participants interested in helping expand this work across our region.

Training Dates:
GROUNDED Training : Wednesday, April 29, 2026, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
GROUNDED Train-the-Trainer: Friday, May 1, 2026, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM

Registration: Please register by emailing [email protected].

Registration will close Wednesday, April 15th, and space is limited.

About the Training: GROUNDED equips participants with practical skills to support individuals experiencing stress, shock, or trauma during and after community-wide emergencies and disasters.
Participants will learn how to:
• Recognize and respond to signs of stress and trauma among survivors and responders
• Apply grounding and stabilization techniques to support people in crisis
• Navigate emergency and disaster response environments while balancing emotional and logistical needs
• Strengthen coordination across agencies through shared language and practices for emotional support

The Train-the-Trainer session offers an opportunity to build local capacity by preparing participants to facilitate future GROUNDED trainings within their organizations and communities. We look forward to learning together and strengthening our region’s ability to respond with care, compassion, and resilience during times of crisis.

FREE with lunch provided both days.
