State warns fraud targeting unemployed rising - Albuquerque Journal

Don't be a victim!

While fraud can take many forms, officials are particularly concerned about phone calls and emails designed to persuade unemployed New Mexicans to part with their personal information. Fraudsters can then take over the account and apply for unemployment benefits using stolen personal info.

With more New Mexicans unemployed and stressed out about finances amid the COVID- 19 pandemic, state agencies are concerned about a rise in unemployment fraud attempts.

PLANNED OUTAGE POSTPONED – Tomorrow's 20-minute planned outage (Friday, March 12 at 8 a.m.) has been postponed until a later date this month. The outage was to affect both sides of Cousins Road to transfer back electric loads. There are no futher outages planned with respect to the Zuni, Ramah, Candy Kitchen, Timberlake and Pinehill areas. CDEC would like to thank all area members for their patience and understanding, as we upgraded our system to provide better quality service to you.

03/11/2021

PLANNED ZUNI-AREA OUTAGE REMINDER: This (Thursday, March 11) a 30-minute outage will impact the Black Rock area on the eastern side of the Pueblo of Zuni and Navajo Tribal Utility Authority (NTUA) customers along the Arizona border as CDEC crews transfer back electric loads that were previously moved onto our Gallup substation to complete Wednesday's system upgrades. Thank you, in advance, for your patience and understanding.

03/10/2021

UPDATE (2:51 p.m.) ZUNI-AREA OUTAGE – CDEC crews are de-energizing communities along New Mexico 53 South (including Zuni, Ramah, Timberlake and Pinehill, as well as service as far southeast as Ice Caves Road) to finally restore power to the Pueblo of Zuni.

This outage is necessary and should only take between 30 and 45 minutes.

Thank you, in advance, for your patience and understanding.

03/10/2021

PLANNED ZUNI-AREA OUTAGE REMINDER – Today, (Wed., March 10) at approximately 7:30 a.m., power will be disrupted to Zuni, NTUA customers, Ramah and Timberlake, as well as service as far southeast as Ice Caves Road.

o With the exception of Zuni, all other communities will only experience a 30-45 minute outage.

o The Pueblo of Zuni outage (with the exception of Black Rock area and NTUA customers) will continue until as late as 4 p.m.

o All other communities will experience another 30-45 minute outage sometime in the late afternoon to finally restore power to the Zuni area.

The outage is necessary to enable CDEC to disconnect power lines from the existing Zuni substation equipment and reconnect the cables to newly-built Zuni substation equipment.

This and other recent CDEC upgrades along New Mexico Highway 53 South will improve electrical service to those receiving power from our Zuni and Ramah substations.

It will provide CDEC greater ability to back-feed its members during future outages, thus shortening the length of outage time as line crews make necessary repairs to our system.

It also enables the co-op to continue to build out its Red Bolt Broadband internet service to these communities and others.

In an effort to reduce the lengthy March 10th outage in the Pueblo of Zuni, CDEC crews and its contractors will work as diligently as safety allows to make the power line switch-over to the new substation equipment.

Thank you, in advance, for your patience and understanding.

03/09/2021

Live updates: Power outages plague Texas, other states amid deadly cold, snow

With the extreme cold gripping our region and much of the middle of the country, electricity demand is at a record high.

As you may have heard, some electric utilities across the country are asking consumers to conserve power. Many of these utilities are connected to the eastern U.S. electric grid, where electricity demand is currently very high.

CDEC is connected to the western U.S. electric grid, which is electrically separate from the eastern grid. The western grid is performing well at this time, and the warming temperatures are certainly helping.

With our power supplier, Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association, we are always watching for issues that could affect power reliability.

Our system is operating with sufficient generation to meet our members’ demand for energy, and we do not anticipate any reliability issues related to power supply and demand at this time.

We wish our neighboring utilities in the east and Texas the very best as they work to serve their members and consumers.

OUTAGE: CDEC is in the process of fully restoring power, west of Gallup. Another tractor-trailer came into contact with power lines overnight at the Love's Truck Stop. In order to safely repair/replace poles, lines and other equipment, CDEC had to disrupt power to a larger area, affecting about 1,500 co-op members. Today, we are discussing with Love's the installation of barrier poles to better protect our equipment from vehicles maneuvering about the truck stop.

Thank you for your continued patience, as we perform this work today.

PRC should see the light with record heat and blackouts - Albuquerque Journal

As an electric cooperative, our mission is to meet the needs and expectations of our members. It's a balancing act – the need to have a diverse portfolio of fuels to help co-ops keep electricity rates as low as possible for all while ensuring reliability and meeting member expectations for environmental sustainability. While co-op members across the country appreciate our industry's sensible approach, unfortunately, it comes hand-in-hand with the closure of coal-fired and natural gas power plants. Continental Divide Electric Co-op continues to work with federal, state and local lawmakers to ensure their decisions consider our industry's challenges.

Did New Mexicans just get a glimpse at the future as the state transitions to 100% renewable electric power mandated under the Energy Transition Act? The answer is very likely “yes,” especially in light of an important — and misguided — decision last month by the state Public Regulation Comm...

At about 8:45 p.m., Tuesday (Aug. 18), CDEC crews responded to an outage that affected members in Bluewater, Milan and along State Road 605 North. Lineworkers found five downed poles. They were able to loop feed power lines to restore power temporarily. Today, crews are back on site, replacing the damaged poles. A brief outage may have to occur during the switchover. At the moment, we do not have an estimated time when that outage could occur, if at all necessary. Thank you, in advance, for your understanding.
