Due to today's Tails on Trails event having to be cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances, we thought we would celebrate National Dog Day with sharing some of our beloved fur babies that belong to some of our staff here at the park. You may even see some of these sweet fur babies when they are visiting the park.
The first barker is Philly. Philly is a 10 year old pit bull mix (73.1% American pitbull terrier, 19.6% American Staffordshire terrier, 7.3% cane Corso), turning 11 in November. She was adopted from ACCT Philly and has spent the last decade perfecting the art of being loud, cozy, and mildly disgusting. In her younger years, Philly was absolutely obsessed with fetch. Ball was life. There was no “just one more throw”, there was only throwing the ball until your arm fell off or Philly decided you were useless. These days, she’s embraced retirement and prefers anything soft, warm, fluffy or remotely resembling a place she can burrow into and refuse to move. Her hobbies include barking at anything she deems suspicious (which is most things), aggressively pursuing maximum coziness, and perhaps most disturbingly, smelling her own farts. Not accidently either, she likes to investigate her own work. She may be a senior citizen now, but she remains 100% Philly: part pit bull, part blanket goblin, part park security system and part biological warfare enthusiast.
2nd barker is Nipsey. He’s a 5 year old minpin. He loves to bark and beg for food. He is a solid 12 pounds (chunky) of pure steel and cuteness appeal.
3rd barker is a dog that one of our maintenance workers adores. Meet Rebel who had to have cataract surgery and what once was zero vision has been restored to 100%. The after photo looks like he is smiling now that he can see again.
4th set of barkers are Shenzi and Nita (should have been Needa since she need a home and a name). They are 10 years old and are 50% Newfoundland, 25% Redbone Coonhound, and 25% Australian Shepard mix. They look totally different but were born in the same litter. They are very bonded and can't go anywhere without the other one. They love treats, chasing squirrels, walks, car rides, (as see in the photo) and belly rubs.
