Before it became Athens, this Bradford County community was known as Tioga Point. In 1779, General John Sullivan established Fort Sullivan here, turning the quiet meeting place of the Chemung and Susquehanna rivers into the headquarters for one of the Revolutionary War’s largest and most consequential campaigns.

The expedition followed devastating attacks on frontier settlements, but it also destroyed numerous Haudenosaunee communities and displaced thousands of Native people. It’s an important—and complicated—chapter in Pennsylvania and American history.

It doesn't look like the kind of place that once required the attention of the New York State Legislature. 😲

Around 1818, Allen Rice built a dam across the Allegheny River near what would become Weston Mills, New York. Because the river was an important transportation route, the project had to allow boats and canoes to continue passing through.

The dam helped power local mills, and the settlement became known as Rice's Mills before eventually becoming Weston Mills.

Just another incredible piece of history hiding along the back roads of Western New York.

Earlier in the season, we visited the Coudersport Ice Mine and found it packed with incredible formations of ice. We returned near the end of the season to see what had changed—and most of the ice was gone!

The mine was still remarkably cold, though, because this Potter County wonder seems to work backward. Ice forms as the weather warms, then begins disappearing as the surrounding land becomes colder. 🧊

We also explored the 15-minute Ice Mountain Trail and History Walk and stopped inside the historic Swiss Chalet gift shop, where visitors can find shirts, postcards, keychains and other souvenirs.

If you want the biggest ice formations, visit early. If you go near the end of the season, there may be less ice—but the mine certainly hasn’t run out of cold!

Evergreen is a tiny village tucked into the wooded hills of Albany Township near New Albany. It may be easy to pass through, but this quiet Bradford County community once had its own post office and developed in a township shaped by timber, sawmills and an early turnpike. Another small Pennsylvania place with more history than its size might suggest.

Imagine opening a bar and the entire town basically deciding, “Well… we tried that.” 😂🥃

In 1880, James Warren reportedly received the first whiskey license ever issued in Humphrey, New York—and according to local history, it was also the last.

One license. One guy. And apparently no need for a sequel.

Another fascinating little piece of history hiding along the back roads of Western New York.

While attending the Little League World Series in South Williamsport, we stopped inside the Little League Flagship Store—and discovered just how difficult “only looking” can be. 😂

The store was packed with uniforms, shirts, hats, baseballs, collectibles and merchandise representing teams from around the world. And, of course, there were plenty of pins!

Pin trading is serious business at the World Series. Kids negotiate like experienced Wall Street executives, while adults stand nearby pretending the collection belongs to their children.

This past Friday, downtown Williamsport came alive for the 15th Williamsport Welcomes the World celebration! 🌎⚾️

Baseball fans, visiting families and local residents gathered for an evening filled with live music, food vendors, children’s activities and plenty of community spirit.

For most of the year, Williamsport is a quiet Pennsylvania city. Then August arrives, the world shows up, and suddenly we’re giving directions to people from countries we couldn’t confidently locate on a blank map. 😂

Thank you to the City of Williamsport, the Williamsport/Lycoming Chamber of Commerce, the vendors, volunteers and everyone who helped our community welcome the world!

We visited the Williamsport Community Woodshop inside the Pajama Factory—where people of all experience levels can learn woodworking, take classes and bring their ideas to life.

The shop has table saws, lathes, planers, sanders, CNC equipment, a laser cutter and knowledgeable volunteers ready to help. Basically, everything you need to create a family heirloom—or several unusually expensive pieces of scrap wood. 😂

Whether you’re an experienced woodworker or someone who considers assembling furniture from a box an advanced construction project, there’s a place for you here.

Remember: measure twice, cut once—and quietly move the pencil mark if necessary.
