Congratulations to the UIL Academics state qualifiers from Grapevine-Colleyville ISD Collegiate Academy and Grapevine High School who were recognized at last night’s Board meeting. At state, they delivered top notch performances, returning with eight individual honors and three team awards.

Outgoing Interim Superintendent Rick DeMasters was also recognized for his service to GCISD since December 2025, as the search for a new superintendent was underway. GCISD is grateful to Mr. DeMasters for his steady and supportive leadership throughout the last six months!

Colleyville Middle School, Cross Timbers Middle School, and Heritage Middle School won first, second and third places, respectively, at the recent Texas Music Educators Association regional competition. The competition involves judges evaluating audio recordings of each band's concerts from the school year. Next up in the competition: Area, to be held Wednesday and Thursday, June 17 and 18.

Three GCISD Career and Technical Education students were recognized this morning for completing the Future Leaders Public Safety program this school year through their Law Enforcement Practicum class.

Congratulations to Dr. Neal Odle, a 2026 GCISD Walk of Honor inductee!

We are thrilled to announce our 2026 Walk of Honor Inductee…..

DR. Neal Odle

Dr. Neal Odle dedicated the entirety of his 31 year professional career to Grapevine Colleyville ISD. He attended Bowie High School and graduated in 1967. He then attended the University of North Texas, where he received bachelor’s and master’s degrees, and in 1998 he received his Doctor in Education degree from UNT. He began his teaching career in 1971 as a 5th grade teacher at Colleyville Elementary School and was voted Teacher of the Year for the 1974-75 school year. One of Neal’s two daughters, Erin, followed in his footsteps and is currently the principal at Colleyville Elementary School, and his grandchildren are also GCISD graduates.

In 1976, Dr. Odle became the principal at Colleyville Elementary School, and in 1986 he opened O.C. Taylor Elementary School, where he served as principal until his retirement in 2002. Dr. Odle’s leadership touched countless lives. Many remember his warm and welcoming spirit and his pursuit of academic excellence for each and every student. His former colleagues emphatically characterize him as an encourager and champion for all. During his tenure, he brought many accolades to GCISD, including the first ever Elementary National Blue Ribbon School designation awarded by the US Department of Education, given to schools that demonstrate exceptional academic performance and a commitment to educational improvement. He received the National Association of Elementary Principals Award for his excellence in education, and in 2002 he received the Jim Thompson Award for exemplary achievement in Education.

Dr. Odle continues to serve his community through his involvement in the Grapevine Volunteers in Police Service program, going on weekly patrols and helping out with police events in the community. He received the President Volunteer Silver Service Award for his 499 plus hours of community service. Dr. Odle is an active member of Compass Christian Church, serving as an elder and community group leader. He uses his handyman skills in building sets for musicals and on mission outreach programs both locally and in Mexico.

Congratulations to Judge David Florence, a 2026 GCISD Walk of Honor inductee!

We are thrilled to announce one of our 2026 Walk of Honor Inductees:

Congratulations to Judge David Florence!

Judge David Florence grew up in Grapevine and attended Grapevine schools, graduating from Grapevine High School in 1966. He was active in multiple sports, was captain of the basketball team, and held leadership positions in Student Council, National Honor Society, and the Latin and Science Clubs. It was also at Grapevine High School that Judge Florence met his wife of 58 years, Darlene Tillery Florence. Their children, Kathy Florence Spradley and Matt Florence, as well as their grandchildren, all graduated from GHS. Judge Florence was inducted into the GHS Hall of Fame in 2000.

Judge Florence earned a bachelor’s degree from Texas Tech University, and in 1973 he graduated from SMU School of Law. He established a private law practice in Grapevine in 1976 and was a certified specialist in Estate Planning and Probate Law. Judge Florence enjoyed serving his community on the Grapevine City Council from 1976 - 1980 and as Mayor Pro Tem from 1978 - 1980. He also served in the US Army Reserves as a Captain for 10 years. In addition, he helped establish a tax exempt corporation, Holton’s Drive for SIDS, to raise funds for research and prevention of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, which claimed the life of his grandson and his namesake, Holton David Spradley, in 2007.

The bulk of Judge Florence’s legacy was as a Municipal Court Judge in Grapevine. He served for 35 years in this position before retiring in 2015. During his tenure he helped establish the Teen Court, which allows teens charged with minor offenses to be judged by their peers, promoting accountability and community service rather than traditional punitive measures. He also was instrumental in collaborating with surrounding municipal judges to unite and create an alliance for “traveling judges” to perform weekend arraignments. Many who worked with Judge Florence through the years say that he treated everyone with fairness and respect throughout the judicial process.

Judge Florence is a life long member of the First Methodist Church in Grapevine, where he served in multiple positions including Trustee, Administrative Board, Council on Ministries, and the Pastor-Parish Relations Committee. Today, Judge Florence continues to serve at his church and enjoys attending his grandchildren’s events at Grapevine High School.
