NWTC Service-Learning

NWTC Service-Learning Service- learning at NWTC is a hands on application of classroom based curriculum. Service- learning puts students directly in their fields and teaches what a textbook cannot; the rewarding feeling of serving one's community.

Service-Learning at NWTC is a method of teaching and learning that enhances the curriculum and allows students to apply classroom-learned skills directly in their fields. The work that is completed within the parameters of an NWTC Service-Learning class serves to fulfill both a course competency and a community need, not just one or the other. It has been shown that serving within one's own field of study can nurture a student's ability to work with a team, as well as develop a connection to the community.

Students in a Restaraunt Management course at NWTC participated in a service-learning project that required them to educate area hotels and restaraunts about human trafficking. Did you know Two thirds of all human trafficking involves a hotel and/or restaurant? After the students completed their projects, a lively group reflection was facilitated answering the questions - What? So What? and Now What? These NWTC students will enter their career fields educated on the signs and dangers of human trafficking, and will be empowered to make a difference within their vocation!

Put Volunteering to Work on Your Resume | United We Serve

Put your volunteering (and service-learning) to work!

Good news. A recent LinkedIn survey found that 41 percent of professionals considered volunteer work as much as paid work when evaluating job candidates. Now here’s the bad news: Slightly less than half of the 89 percent who had volunteer experience included it on their resumes. That’s a mistake --…

Thank you to the NWTC architectural technology club students for mentoring students at King Elementary. NWTC students & staff collected non-perishable food items to build replicas of famous architectural structures, and then taught students at King to build their own. Food collected from King & NWTC will be donated to the NWTC Shared Harvest Pantry, which provides monthly bags of food to students in need. It was a wonderful experience for our students!
