Check out the drive-thru window at Brown County Library!

When the Central Library opened in January of 1974, it was full of new innovations for a modern library; one of those innovations was the drive up window. This feature offered book check out without leaving your car. The drive up window opened on March 10, 1975. The service was originally available from 4 to 8 pm Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, 4 to 5 pm on Tuesdays and was closed Saturday and Sunday.

Books had to be placed on hold, in order to take advantage of the window. On more than one occasion, people would get confused and put deposit slips into the drawer, thinking they were at the bank next door. The drive up window continued into the 1980s and was eventually discontinued. Today, the window is back in service offering contact free book delivery during the statewide shutdown. #tbt

Does “a sonnet a day keeps the doctor away?" Watch to find out!

I was delighted by the response to yesterday's posting of Shakespeare's Sonnet 116, and it has led me to undertake what follows. When I was a child in the 1940s, my mother would cut up slices of fruit for me (there wasn't much) and as she put it in front of me she would say: "An apple a day keeps the doctor away." How about, “A sonnet a day keeps the doctor away”? So...here we go: Sonnet 1
