What does institutionalized racism look like? Why is it so important to be able to identify and end it?

Great read from the 21-week equity challenge. https://diverseeducation.com/article/64583/

During a recent conversation about sports, athletics and sports organizations, a student asked me how organizations should go about recognizing institutional racism. What does it looks like? Great question. And sometimes, I stated, it is easy to recognize, but let’s be clear here, while the focus ...

Anti-Asian Violence Resources

United Way mourns with the Asian American and Pacific Islander community—including those in our United Way family—after the murder of eight people, including six women of Asian descent, in Georgia. It’s important that we say their names: Delaina Ashley Yaun, Daoyou Feng, Xiaojie Tan, Paul Andre Michels, Soon Chung Park, Suncha Kim, Yong Ae Yue, and Hyun Jung Grant.

Less than a year ago we denounced the racially motivated killings of Black Americans. Today, we must again condemn acts of racism and ethnic violence. We must again confront the anxiety and grief resulting from hate-fueled violence. And we must again call on every person in every community to join us to ensure unobstructed access to the benefits, opportunities, rights, privileges, and protections society has to offer—social equity—is enjoyed by all.

We at United Way have committed to building better, stronger, and more equitable communities. To deliver on this promise we must speak out against racism towards Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders and protect the basic human rights and freedoms to which they are entitled.

Anti-Asian racism and violent attacks on Asian elderly have only increased in recent months. Since COVID-19 became news in the United States, hate speech and violence against the AAPI community has run rampant. In February 2021, attacks, particularly on elderly Asian Americans, have spiked. Unfortun...
