Mediation is a form of conflict resolution. In mediation a trained and impartial mediator facilitates a conversation between two or more parties in conflict. The mediator helps the parties to discuss their dispute, consider possible viable solutions, and reach a mutually-agreeable resolution. WHY USE MEDIATION?? Mediation is Confidential - Mediation settings are private and the discussions are confidential. Mediation Preserves Relationships - Mediators help the individuals develop a sense of mutual respect and collaboration. This helps to restore the individuals' trust and ability to communicate. Mediation is Self-Determined - The individuals themselves decide how their dispute will be settled through a conversation facilitated by a mediator. Mediation Reduces Stress - Mediators provide a comfortable environment and a process of cooperative dialogue. Mediation Brings Closure to Dispute - Mediators help the individuals address the core issues of their dispute so that the conflict can be thoughtfully resolved and the individuals can return their focus to their personal and professional lives. To begin: A meeting time is arranged and a mediator meets with the individuals in a comfortable setting. Then: The individuals each explain their issues and their concerns. The mediator listens, asks questions, and helps clarify misunderstandings. Finally: The mediator helps the individuals explore options and reach a realistic, effective, and satisfactory resolution. ABOUT OUR MEDIATORS The Mediation Center of Greater Green Bay has a roster of about 35 mediators. All of our mediators complete 40 hours of professional training and six months of mentored mediation practice plus in-service trainings throughout the year.. The mediators offer their services as volunteers and have backgrounds including: banking, long-term care, sales, human resources, insurance, social work, customer service, rental, psychology, counseling, law, construction, engineering, finance, service contracts, education, real estate, and technology.

Mission: Better Solutions Happen Here. The Mediation Center of Greater Green Bay assists and educates individuals and groups to resolve their disputes peacefully and respectfully.

I am delighted to share with you that the Mediation Center has been awarded a $2,600 grant from the Crime Prevention Foundation, a component fund of the Greater Green Bay Community Foundation. This money is intended to be used toward the training necessary for our Victim Offender Conferencing Program (VOC).

The award was presented at the annual Crime Stoppers luncheon yesterday. It is exciting to get this kind of encouragement for a program we believe will be a real benefit to our community.

A MESSAGE FROM OUR BOARD PRESIDENT:

As they say, when one door closes another opens. I am thrilled to announce that Amy Kocha has accepted the position of Executive Director for our Mediation Center.

Amy’s experience, expertise and enthusiasm made her an obvious choice and it was an easy decision by our Board to offer her the position.

Amy will assume these duties as of October 1st. Amy will work with the Board to make additional staffing decisions for the Mediation Center in the near future.

“The planet does not need more ‘successful people’. The planet desperately needs more peacemakers, healers, restorers, storytellers and lovers of all kinds. It needs people to live well in their places. It needs people with moral courage willing to join the struggle to make the world habitable and humane and these qualities have little to do with success as our culture is the set.” – Dalai Lama

ALICE - United Way of Wisconsin

United Way of Wisconsin released ALICE report. Do you know ALICE?

ALICE is an acronym that stands for Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed. The United Way ALICE Project reveals this stark reality: 11% of Brown County households live in poverty, while 27% fall under the ALICE Threshold: people earning income above the Federal Poverty Level who still struggle to afford basic needs like health care, transportation and food. This means that 38,583 households (38%) of households in Brown County are experiencing financial struggle.

SIX LITTLE STORIES
From our friends at FOCU$ CPAs

1. Once all the villagers decided to pray for rain. On the day of prayer, all the people gathered - but only one little boy came with an umbrella....THAT IS FAITH.
2. When you throw babies in the air, they laugh because they know you will catch them.....THAT IS TRUST.
3. Every night we go to bed without any assurance of being alive the next morning - but still we set our alarms to wake up.....THAT IS HOPE.
4. We plan big things for tomorrow in spite of zero knowledge of the future.....THAT IS CONFIDENCE.
5. We see the world suffering but still we get married and have children.....THAT IS LOVE.
6. On an old man's shirt was written "I am not 80 years old....I am sweet 16 with 64 years of experience". THAT IS ATTITUDE.

Have a great day and share these six stories!
