Post Members, families and friends,
The George T Murphy American Legion Post 491 held a Quilt of Valor presentation this morning at the Green Ridge American Legion Building. The United We Sew organization led by Ms Jeannie Braswell presented 4 Quilts and they were nice. Special thanks to the United We Sew ladies and the George T Murphy American Legion Post 491 Auxiliary for they total support. It could not have went so smoothly without you. Ms Linda Reed tries hard to ensure our Post has a great place to have the presentations and it shows as they come back time and time again. Thanks to all the Veterans, families and friends that attended. It means a lot.
Sincerely
Douglas Schouten

Post Members and Guests,
Thanks to everyone who attended our Memorial Day Ceremony at the Green Ridge Cemetery. This year the weather cooperated, but it was still a somber time remembering the past. Chief Mellody Allee did an amazing job as our Keynote Speaker and she had an inspiring speech. The Color Guard did a fine job. The Auxiliary members laid the wreath and Bill Carr did a great job delivering both the Invocation and Benediction. Macey sang our National Anthem and I hope we have many more years of her amazing voice assisting our organization during ceremonies. Great job Macey.. A special thanks to all that attended and Michael Stark one of our newest prospective members drove 4 hours from Freeburg, Illinois to meet the Post members and attend the ceremony.
We are all glad he made it safe and hope his return trip is safe as well.
Post 491 have a Blessed Memorial Day and we pray for our soldiers who gave the ultimate sacrifice.

Today, we pause.

Not for a sale.
Not for a long weekend.
Not for ourselves.

Today, we remember the Fallen.

The sons and daughters.
The brothers and sisters.
The husbands and wives.
The fathers, mothers, friends, and Heroes who gave everything in service to this country.

Their names are not just etched in stone.
They are carried in the hearts of the families who love them, the brothers and sisters who served beside them, and the nation that lives free because of their sacrifice.

At Til Valhalla Project, Memorial Day is sacred.

It is a day to remember the cost of freedom, to Honor the Fallen, and to hold close the families who carry an empty seat, an unanswered phone call, and a lifetime of love with nowhere to go.

May we never forget why this day matters.

🇺🇸 Today and always, we Honor the Fallen.
Til Valhalla, Brothers and Sisters.
