Butler County Sheriff’s Deputies are currently on the scene of a brush fire in the 4100 block of North Mt. Zion Road.

The M&D Volunteer Fire Department is actively working to bring the fire under control. Motorists are urged to use caution when traveling in the area and be alert for emergency personnel and equipment operating near the roadway.

Please avoid the area if possible and allow first responders room to work safely.

🚨Traffic Alert🚨

Butler County Sheriff’s Deputies, along with ALEA and emergency personnel, are currently on the scene of a crash on I-65 northbound near the 118 mile marker.

The crash involves injuries. A small child was transported to a local hospital by an Alabama State Trooper due to the urgency of the situation and the inability to wait for rescue personnel to arrive.

Motorists should expect delays and use extreme caution when traveling through the area as first responders continue to work the scene.

🚨 Traffic Alert 🚨

Butler County Sheriff’s Deputies are currently on the scene of a crash on I-65 northbound near the 115 mile marker.

A pickup truck that was disabled and left on the shoulder was involved in the crash. One person sustained injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Please use caution when traveling through the area and watch for emergency personnel working the scene.

🚨 FESTIVAL SECURITY INFORMATION 🚨

The Butler County Sheriff’s Office will be providing security for the 47th Annual Hank Williams Festival on June 5-6, 2026, in Georgiana, Alabama.

For the safety and enjoyment of all attendees, the following items and activities are NOT permitted inside the festival grounds:

❌ No coolers
❌ No weapons of any kind
❌ No pets
❌ No canopies or large umbrellas
❌ No lounge chairs
❌ No chairs left overnight

✅ Clear bags only
✅ Standard lawn chairs are permitted
✅ ATMs will be available on site

Food and beverages will be available for purchase inside the festival grounds, including Coke products, water, beer, and wine coolers.

We appreciate everyone’s cooperation as we work together to provide a safe and enjoyable festival experience for all.

Butler County Sheriff’s Deputies are currently on the scene of an overturned vehicle crash in the 1500 block of Pineapple Highway.

The roadway is blocked while emergency personnel work the scene. Please avoid the area if possible and use an alternate route until the roadway can be cleared.

A Sweet Surprise for BCSO!

Sheriff David Scruggs and the Butler County Sheriff’s Office received a special delivery today from two young community members who wanted to say “thank you” for the job our deputies do each day.

The children stopped by with delicious treats and kind words of appreciation for our law enforcement officers. Gestures like these remind us why we proudly serve the citizens of Butler County.

Sheriff Scruggs and the entire BCSO team are grateful for the support, encouragement, and kindness shown by our community. Thank you for making our day a little sweeter!

PRESS RELEASE

As of Wednesday, May 27, 2026, former Butler County Sheriff’s Office employee Weston Keeney has been charged by the Alabama State Bureau of Investigation with Theft of Property 2nd Degree.

This investigation did not involve the Butler County Sheriff’s Office and stems from an incident in Georgiana.

The Butler County Sheriff’s Office has fully cooperated with SBI throughout this investigation.

Sheriff David Scruggs was notified of the investigation on May 21, 2026, and Weston Keeney’s employment with the Butler County Sheriff’s Office was terminated that same day.

Weston Keeney was arrested today by the Alabama State Bureau of Investigation and booked into the Butler County Detention Center.

Because this is an active investigation being handled by the State Bureau of Investigation, no further comments will be made at this time.

No injuries have been reported, but one lane is currently blocked by law enforcement until the scene is cleared.
