Good morning Leflore County. This morning two residential communities came together to make peace and effort to stop the violence. The Leflore County Sheriff’s Department lead by Sheriff James Payne Sr. meet with the two communities from Rising Sun and Sidon to help resolve their issues and move forward. We are grateful for the citizens in these areas to come together and talk it out in a peaceful effort to stop the violence. Talks included an agreement to say that the past is over and they will move forward in getting along despite where they live or where they are from. We need more of this in Leflore County. Thank you for coming together.

At this time we are no longer accepting applications for the position of Deputy.

The Leflore County Sheriff's Office is taking applications for the position of Deputy Sheriff. The position requirements are 21 years of age or older, pass pre-employment drug screen test, pass background screen. We are looking to hire certified and non-certified Deputies. To obtain an application, stop by the Leflore County Sheriff's Office located at 3600 Baldwin Road, Greenwood MS 38930.

ATTENTION: We are expecting colder than normal temperatures this weekend. The Leflore County Sheriffs Office is asking all citizens to stay off the roads if they become icy. With this in mind the time to respond to calls may take longer than usual. We have to keep our Deputies safe in responding to calls. The Leflore County Sheriffs Office will answer all calls for service. Please stay off the road if possible.

The bridge on County Road 512 will be out today starting at 9 am for two months. This bridge is located on the far east end of County Road 512 near Hwy 430. There will be no traffic allowed to proceed through due to the bridge being out.
