The Town of Grifton is currently seeking one new Volunteer for the Resident Advisory Committee.

If you are interested in community events and engagement, parks and recreation, and making a difference in the town, this is the perfect committee for you.

The committee typically meets once a month on the third Tuesday at 6:00 pm.

Sometimes progress is as simple as taking something that needs attention and making it better.

The Museum/Civic Center ceiling had holes and significant water damage. It has now been fully replaced, along with updated lighting that brightens up the space.

A small improvement, but one that makes a big difference when you walk through the door.

Good Morning Everyone! It is a Beautiful day in Grifton!

💧 Water Meter Replacement Coming Soon

Beginning as early as next week, crews will start replacing water meters throughout our community. This work will give us more accurate water-use readings and help us maintain a reliable water system for years to come.

A few things to know:

💦 Your water reading may change. New meters measure water use more precisely, so some customers may see a difference in the usage shown on future bills. This does not mean the new meter charges more—it simply provides a more accurate reading.

💧 You may briefly see discolored water. Work on older service lines can sometimes stir up sediment, causing water to look yellow, brown, or rusty temporarily. Running a cold-water faucet for a few minutes will usually clear it. If it doesn't, please reach out to us.

🚧 Thank you for your patience! Replacing meters throughout the community is a big project, and we appreciate your understanding while our crews work in your neighborhood.

We're excited to make this improvement to our water system and will keep you updated as the project moves forward. 💙

Good Morning!

We have filled all 12 vendor spaces and food truck spaces as of this morning. We will still be accepting waitlist vendors for the event. Vendors will receive an email with information and instruction in the coming weeks.

We are also extending the hours of the Mini Fall Fest event to 5pm - 8pm. Be on the lookout for an updated flyer to help spread the word!

We are currently seeking local vendors, small businesses, crafters, community organizations, and a food truck to join us for the festivities. Vendor Spaces are limited and will be first come first serve. There is no fee to operate as a vendor this year.

Town Contractors are continuing to abandon old water lines throughout parts of town as part of our Water line Replacement project.

We have heard reports from some residents, particularly in the Cannon Drive area, that water service has appeared discolored after a line was abandoned. We wanted to take this opportunity to publicly explain what is causing that, what solutions are available, and highlight the current project.

1. Most water line in the older portions of town was installed in the 1920s and 1930s and is made of 2 inch galvanized steel. This old galvanized steel has built up Corrosion over time, which is part of the reason we are replacing it today.
2. When new replacement water line is installed, the old line must be abandoned. What this means is that the line must be cut and removed from the system.
3. When contractors cut the old line, it disturbs the 100 year old pipe that still exists in the system. This is what causes discoloration.

This is sort of like waiting on road construction. We understand that it is irritating and displeasing to wait on a road to be paved, but the end product is a brand new road that is much better on our vehicles. This is the same situation with our water; we know that changes and disruptions to water service are not fun for anyone, but the end result will be a much stronger and safer water system.

What can you do? Running your faucet will flush any sediment and will help to return drinking water to our baseline standard.

The gauges on the bridge in town are NOT flock cameras.

They monitor the level of the river… just FYI.

🚨👮‍♀️ So.... real talk for a minute neighbors......

👍 North Carolina has a flood gauge monitoring program with over 770 gauges statewide. It's public. You can visit it and see them all. You can sign up for alerts too. Just go to https://fiman.nc.gov/ . Pretty cool right?

👍 These gauges help emergency managers and public safety leaders make life-saving decisions by providing a real-time look at what our river systems are doing. Also a cool tool to have available, right?

👎 What's not cool is that people damage these gauges and steal them. We really don't know why. But it costs money to replace them, takes time to do the work, and it puts the community at risk by removing our ability to access real-time data.

If you notice a flood gauge that is damaged or missing, please call and let us know. If you see someone that is not from the state or local government sawing away at a pole or damaging it, please call 911 to report it.

🩷 We are all more resilient when we have tools to monitor our river systems.

The Town of Grifton has been awarded a grant to improve the quality of recreation by replacing the stadium lighting at the Brown Hodges Baseball Fields. Attached is the Town's Request for Proposal due September 7, 2026.
