Close to Nature Wildlife Rehabilitation Center

This applies to ALL rescue...wildlife, domestic, exotics, farm...

Rescues are not paid or funded. We have full time jobs, children, our own pets, we get sick, we deal with unbelievably rude people via Facebook & from the individuals that contact us.

Rescue is financially, emotionally, & physically draining.

Just because we rescue for free doesn't mean we are not professionals. Many of us take continuing education classes at our expense. We work with vet staff, biologists, & some of us are vet staff & biologists with years of experience working with animals.

And then people wonder why some licensed rehabilitators do not answer messages, or why they stop rehabilitating all together.

To my fellow rescuers, YOU ARE AMAZING!!!
Wishing you all lots of donations, support from those around you, happy release days for rehabilitators, & tons of adoptions to those that rescue farm, exotics, & domestic pets.

We are tired....please be kind in general! 💜

Well I think the screen says it all. X-ray Friday / Storytime I helped bring my cat from the dead when he was born, and he doesn’t even like me. 🥲 He is the product of an emergency c-section because his feral momma had a pelvic fracture after being hit by a car. She was on a euthanasia list with just hours to spare before the Odd Cat Sanctuary saved her!

I’m feeling somewhere in the mix of these 3 emojis - 😞😡👹

It both breaks my heart and angers me to an extent I can’t quite describe to announce that
yesterday, the Massachusetts House of Representatives did not adopt Amendment #10 to the Mass Ready Act - which is legislation that would have phased out the use of second-generation anticoagulant rodenticides (SGARs) statewide. The House of Ways and Means did not include it.

There are supposed to be multiple municipalities responsible for protecting our wildlife here in Massachusetts and every one of them has heard from their wildlife rehabbers, wildlife clinics, veterinarians and many, many members of the public about the plethora of animals dying from secondary rat poisoning.

What have they done to protect our wildlife from this??? Absolutely nothing. The suffering and deaths of our predator species continue to mount and hearts of Massachusetts citizens continue to break due to the indifference of those in power to make a change.

Pest control companies continue to profit millions off of these poisons while the financial burden of helping the non target species affected falls on your local non profit animal rescues.

The state allots $0 to help treat all the wildlife affected by these poisons.

This is happening - every day, right under our noses.

Disappointing doesn’t even begin to describe it…

It’s estimated that if we don’t course correct and we don’t start taking care of our planet, climate change will cause the ocean levels to rise anywhere between 2-6 feet. That means a good chunk of Boston is going to be underwater.

Stick around to the end of the video and you’ll see a map of the areas currently at risk of flooding in 2026, and then the areas that will be at risk in 2100. It is !

🚨 MASSACHUSETTS 🚨 the vote is TOMORROW, June 17th. 🚨

The Massachusetts House is voting on Amendment #10 to the Mass Ready Act, which would phase out anticoagulant rodenticides - the slow-acting rat poisons that are quietly decimating our wildlife.

Here’s what you need to know: researchers at Tufts Wildlife Clinic necropsied red-tailed hawks and found that 100% of them tested positive for exposure to anticoagulant rodenticides. Not most. Not the majority. Every. Single. One.

These poisons don’t kill rodents immediately - they weaken them, making them easy prey. Predators eat the poisoned rodents, and the toxins accumulate in their bodies. Hawks. Owls. Foxes. Bald eagles. All collateral damage from poison bait boxes lining our sidewalks.

I’m a licensed wildlife rehabilitator. I see this. This is preventable.

Are you accidentally kidnapping baby animals? You might be! I get so many calls from well meaning people about ‘orphaned’ baby animals that aren’t truely orphaned. It takes a bit to learn the natural history of these animals, but it’s worth it so they can keep their family together! Do you want me to expand on when specific animals need help? Lemme know in the comments!
