Horse Drawn Carriage Signs ("Amish Buggies")
From PennDOT to Jackson Township Supervisors:

April 14, 2026
This is in response to your email dated March 5, 2026, regarding the installation of Horsedrawn Vehicle signs on Armstrong Valley Road (SR 0225) and Enders Road (SR 4001), in Jackson Township, Dauphin County.
A traffic engineering and safety study was conducted by a PennDOT. As a result of the study, Horsedrawn Vehicle signs will be installed on Armstrong Valley Road (SR 0225) and Enders Road (SR 4001). Work orders have been issued to our PennDOT Dauphin County Maintenance office to install the requested signs. Please allow 60 days for the scheduling and completion of this work.
We appreciate your concerns for safety on our state roads.
Traffic Studies/Signing Section Supervisor

March 5, 2026
The Horsedrawn Vehicles sign (W 11-14) is a sign that PennDOT installs and maintains. We will review the sign locations from the drawing you submitted. Once we verify the sign locations (they may be a little different depending on field conditions) we will create a work order and send it to our Dauphin County Maintenance Office to have the signs installed. Due to scheduling and weather delays, it may take up to 60 days for them to be ordered and installed. If you have any questions please let me know.

We would like to offer some important information in regards to our pool fills for 2026. Please read this entire post.

This past Sunday our tanker was sent out to have a leak in the tank repaired. This is an issue that we must have addressed and this time frame was when the repair shop could get our tanker in. The repairs to the tanker are needed to help insure it's readiness and that it is fully functional to provide water at rural fire scenes in our first due area of Jackson Township and the surrounding municipalities that we serve.

What does that mean about pool fills? Yes, we will be doing pool fills this year once our tanker comes back from being repaired. Currently we are not sure what date that will be, that is dependent on how long it takes to repair our tanker.

Once our tanker has come back from being repaired, we will start filling swimming pools for the year and we will post our pool prices and locations at that time.

In the meantime, if you would like to get on our pool fill list to have your pool filled once we get our tanker back, you are more than welcome to call the fire station at 717-362-9031 and leave a message and someone will get in touch with you.

If you are unable to wait until our tanker gets back to have your pool filled, we can offer you some suggestions when you get in touch with us for alternative places to get your pool filled.

We thank you all for your understanding with this matter.
