A new gaga ball pit built over the weekend at Boston Valley Elementary by volunteer staff members, Boy Scouts of Troop 1910 and their families was put right to use. It was made possible through support from the Hamburg Alumni Foundation, PTSA and Lowe’s Hamburg. In case you’re wondering, gaga ball is a fast-paced gentler version of dodgeball played in an octagon pit.

Students in Hamburg High School’s ConnectLife Club learned about the importance of organ and tissue donation, and career opportunities, with a visit to the blood lab and eye bank at ConnectLife. They viewed donated bone, corneas, sclera and kidneys on a kidney pump.

Over 75 students from Hamburg High School's Academy of Finance attended a Marketing Me Business Etiquette Luncheon sponsored by the Niagara Frontier Industry Education Council. Students learned about presenting themselves professionally, answering tough interview questions, writing proper business emails and setting attainable goals, and enjoyed a 4-course meal where they learned proper dining etiquette.

“Reading is Magic” is the theme for the district’s Family Reading Night set for Friday, March 25 from 6:30-9 p.m. at the Middle School, 360 Division St. This free event will kick-off with Hawk Creek’s Harry Potter owl program. There will be activities for every age, music by students, door prizes and refreshments. Fun night out for the whole family!

Charlotte Avenue Elementary celebrated its first in-person assembly in two years last week with a focus on the character trait of self-control and the habit of “put first things first.” The Hamburg High School cheerleaders, led by coach Justina Grudzinski, took time out of their schedule to join the celebration. They had to board a bus to Rochester to compete in states the next day. They assisted school counselor Andrea Czerwinski in introducing the themes, making for a fantastic day for students and staff!

Juniors in the Academy of Finance (AOF) at Hamburg High School recently participated in Career & College Portfolio interviews. This interview is the culminating project of a semester-long course where students develop an employability portfolio demonstrating their work readiness skills and showcasing their accomplishments. More than 50 students were interviewed by members of the AOF Advisory Board, including junior Flynn Harper, who was paired with Jamel Perkins.

Charlotte Avenue Elementary students are thanking veterans for their service to the country through handmade Valentine’s cards to be distributed locally through Congressman Chris Jacobs. Students crafted the cards with words of appreciation today with encouragement from the Congressman, who told them how much it means to veterans when youngsters express appreciation. Principal Danielle Lango said the Valentines for Vets project, which the school has participated in for many years, shows that every person can “Make a Difference,” one of the positive traits emphasized at Charlotte Avenue.
