The Town of Hamburg hosted this year's WNY Youth Court Summit at the Taylor Road Cabin this past Monday, with representation from Wyoming, Genesee, Orleans, and Cattaraugus County Youth Courts as well as our own Town Youth Court. The summit is an opportunity to get all youth court members to come together to network and share ideas of how others run and what they are seeing with current cases. Participants took part in team building activities, mindfulness workshops, outdoor activities, and discussion of youth court trends.
On September 27, the Hamburg Youth, Recreation, and Senior Services Department held its 4th Annual Doc Webster Volunteer Gathering at the Taylor Road Cabin. In attendance were Town Supervisor Randy Hoak, Councilmember Elizabeth Farrell Lorentz, Director of Recreation Jillian Gorman-King, several YRSS employees, and about 40 volunteers, including those from the Senior Golf Club, Wanakah Social Club, Sowles Senior Group, Bridge Club, Book Review Club, Southtowns Women’s Club, Bike Patrol, Mah Jong, Pickle ball, Stay-Fit Dining, Senior Advisory Board, and Travel Club. The Department is fortunate enough to have about 60 volunteers who help serve the Senior Center and Adult Day Program.
This year, Sandy Knight of the Southtowns Women’s Club was recognized for her years of dedication. Sandy was not able to attend the event, but members of the group accepted the award in her honor. The group volunteers with the Adult Day Program, various community programs, and hosts monthly meetings with guest speakers.
Anyone interested in learning more about participating in or volunteering with our programs is encouraged to stop by the Senior Community Center at 4540 Southwestern Blvd, call us at 646-5145, or visit our website at www.hamburg-youth-rec-seniors.com.

Hamburg Adult Day Services has had the great privilege of partnering with Music to Remember to provide quality and beneficial entertainment to our patrons. Music to Remember provides live music to senior citizens, Alzheimer's and dementia patients, disabled veterans, and their families throughout the WNY community. Music is therapy to us all; it provides several mental and physical benefits including helping to improve mood, reduce anxiety, and keeping our bodies moving.
This dream started with “Sisters on a Mission” – Robin Grandin (Rockin’ Robin) and Paula D’Amico with the help of the Buffalo Music Hall of Fame. Hamburg Adult Day Services has the privilege of having our friend Robin Grandin come to the “club” for a memorable music concert every month! We cannot describe how much joy she (and the music) brings to the folks who attend our program. They are always dancing, singing along, and clapping their hands.
Music to Remember has been kind enough to sponsor two entertainers a month for our clients to enjoy. We are beyond grateful for this generous donation of live entertainment. With this kindness, Hamburg Adult Day Services wanted to be able to give back to them as well. To help them continue in their mission, we have organized a bottle and can drive the last three years. With the assistance of Bev Preischel and now Adam Houle and their team of volunteers from Hamburg Y.E.S., we were able to raise funds to be donated to the organization. Each year the donations have grown and we are grateful to all who have helped make this possible. This year’s event took place on Saturday, September 23 and attendees received food and drink tickets for their can and bottle donations. Live entertainment was enjoyed by all throughout the day and there were raffles as well.
We are so happy to be able to assist an organization that provides our folks with so much joy. We cannot thank Music to Remember enough for all they do to bring smiles and music to our patrons.
