Stand against bloodshed, war is not an option.

Today, I am announcing the GOARCH Ukrainian Relief Fund, established in collaboration with the IOCC, aiming to raise $1 million for both immediate and long-term support of the Ukrainian people. Early today, we donated $100,000 to the Ecumenical Patriarchate, on behalf of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, to support the efforts of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine.

We join our spirit to the spirit of His All-Holiness and exhort all our Faithful: offer prayers and tangible support for all the Ukrainian People, those of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine and those of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church under the Moscow Patriarchate, those of the Ukrainian Catholic and Jewish communities, and all who find themselves in the dire circumstances of war.

AHEPA remembers the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. as it strives to do its best to help others.

Ancient Greece's Influence on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.:

Dr. King studied Ancient Greek at Crozer Theological Seminary and Boston University. He was inspired by the Greek concept of 'agape' - the transcendent love for others and its capacity to create togetherness and community.

Dr. King also followed Socrates' model of civil disobedience. In his Letter from Birmingham Jail in 1963, he referenced the teachings of Socrates and his student, Plato, about the nonviolent 'gadflies' that irritate the status quo and make peaceful progress toward social justice.

Dr. King wrote: "Just as Socrates felt that it was necessary to create a tension in the mind so that individuals could rise from the bo***ge of myths and half truths to the unfettered realm of creative analysis and objective appraisal, so must we see the need for nonviolent gadflies to create the kind of tension in society that will help men rise from the dark depths of prejudice and racism to the majestic heights of understanding and brotherhood."
