Want to learn more about one of the things we do as amateur radio operators? Check out this event tomorrow at the Ren Fest grounds near Caesar Creek!

"Fox hunting" is a practice using radio direction finding to locate a hidden source of transmission signals. It's useful for finding anything from downed aircraft to pirate transmitters to power line interference.

No license required to participate and some loaner equipment is available. See you there!

Have a great time at our annual Fox Hunt at Renaissance Park.
Join us from 10am - 12pm.
You only need a 2m portable radio to find our fox!
Not sure how? We have a short class for first time hunters at 10am!

If you missed our Field Day set up this weekend you missed a good time! The burgers and hot dogs were tasty, and we had ample opportunity to show our operation to visitors and guests and explain what we we're up to. We even managed to get Butler County EMA, Ohio's own Jim Bolen in front of a radio.

We ran a total of 3 HF stations and one VHF/UHF station. One HF station was 20m SSB (voice), one HF station was 40m voice, (yes, we avoided the Venezuela disaster net!) and the third HF station was both 20m digital and 40m digital. Digital and 40m voice were run from the AuxComm comms trailer, and 20m voice was run from EMA's MOC-1. VHF/UHF was used for coordination and "talk in" directions and site logistics.

While the event is set up as a contest to spur a little healthy competition, it's purpose is to get operators out into unusual conditions, assess the limitations of their resources and practice dealing with the challenges that come up trying to communicate under these conditions. For the AuxComm team, the event was a tremendous success and we learned a lot in the process.

While there are only two Field Day exercises a year, the AuxComm team will continue to hone our operations by doing similar types of operations for other amateur radio events Be sure to watch for announcements here! We'd love to have you visit the station and learn more about it.
