30 years of Republican control in Columbus has left Ohio ranking a miserable #43 in health value. Their policies have given us premium healthcare prices for worse medical outcomes, shuttered rural hospitals, and starved local clinics.

LEGISLATIVE UPDATE: Thanks to fierce public backlash, the explicit family caregiver ban was stripped from House Bill 795. But Statehouse Republicans are still forcing the bill through under the false guise of stopping "fraud." It replaces the ban with invasive home surveillance, biometric tracking, and technological hurdles that critics warn will actively cut off care and cost vulnerable Ohioans their lives.

We are expanding on the damage of Republican policies before we vote on the solution. Swipe to see the receipts in part one of our series, "We Did That!"

The people of Ohio's 10th District deserve a representative who understands what rising costs mean for working families.

When gas prices climb, it doesn't just affect a number on a sign. It affects commutes, grocery budgets, family finances, and everyday decisions.

That's why it's troubling that Congressman Mike Turner declined to comment when asked about his support for the war that is driving up costs.

Kristina Knickerbocker understands that families need leaders focused on lowering costs and helping people get ahead, not politicians who refuse to answer for the consequences of their votes.

Working families deserve accountability.

🚨 Ohio Disability Rights & Care Alert! 🚨

Ohio Republicans backed off from banning paid family care in HB 795, but the "SHIELD Act" still contains dangerous provisions that threaten vulnerable Ohioans and their caregivers.

Here are the 4 worst elements left in the bill:

1️⃣ Invasive Surveillance: Mandates live GPS tracking and facial/voice recognition for caregiver log-ins inside private family homes.
2️⃣ Arbitrary Office Rules: Crushes small and rural care agencies by banning them from enrolling if they share office space.
3️⃣ Sudden Payment Freezes: Instantly freezes a caregiver’s income based on minor automated software or paperwork errors.
4️⃣ Mental Health Red Tape: Adds strict prior authorization hurdles, delaying critical behavioral health care.

We need to protect our disability community and the workers who keep them safe. Tell your Ohio State Representative to protect privacy, cut the red tape, and VOTE NO on HB 795.

As we celebrate Pride Month, BCDP is proud to honor the iconic Ohioans who changed the landscape of American music and culture. From playing guitar on the streets of Cleveland to commanding global stages, Tracy Chapman is a musical powerhouse and an enduring q***r trailblazer. Raised in Ohio, Chapman’s brilliant songwriting captured the hearts of millions with hits like "Fast Car" and "Give Me One Reason."

Throughout her historic career, Chapman has remained fiercely independent and deeply private about her personal life. However, her music has always stood at the intersection of love, identity, and social justice. Her legacy continues to pave the way for acoustic storytelling and activist art.

🚨 OHIO FAMILIES AMID AN EMERGENCY: Columbus politicians are trying to blow up our home healthcare system, and we need to fight back now.

The Ohio House Medicaid Committee is pushing a substitute version of House Bill 795. Tucked inside this bill is a devastating amendment that would completely ban Medicaid payments for family members providing personal care to loved ones with disabilities.

If you care for your spouse, child, parent, sibling, grandchild, or cousin through Ohio’s waiver system, this cruel bill will cut you off.

This isn't about convenience. Families didn’t step up to become providers because it was easy. They stepped in out of protection, survival, and love because the traditional healthcare staffing system collapsed, agencies failed them, or rural shortages left them with zero safe alternatives.

If H.B. 795 passes in its current form, the consequences will be immediate:
❌ Devastating caregiver shortages
❌ Massive disruptions to medically necessary care
❌ Increased hospitalizations
❌ Forced institutionalization of disabled Ohioans who deserve to live safely at home.

Ohio already ranks as the 7th-worst state in the country for health. Stripping away the backbone of our long-term care system moves us in the exact wrong direction. It violates basic person-centered principles and threatens family preservation. Our loved ones deserve choices, stability, and independence—not cruel political barriers.

💥 SHOW UP AND MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD:
We are taking this fight directly to the politicians' front door. Join disabled Ohioans, family caregivers, and advocates for two rallies at the Ohio Statehouse in Columbus:

📅 Tuesday, June 9 at 12 PM (Noon)
📅 Wednesday, June 10 from 10 AM – 12 PM

If you can’t make it to Columbus, call your state representative TODAY and demand they remove the family caregiver ban from Substitute House Bill 795.
