Purple Line LRV arrives in Montgomery County! Purple Line crews will begin testing of light rail tracks and systems with a light rail vehicle (LRV) between the Lyttonsville Operations and Maintenance Facility and Connecticut Avenue station. Please continue to remain outside the project limits, as LRVs will periodically travel along the tracks and through the Purple Line work zone.
Please note that testing in this section is limited to dedicated Purple Line tracks and does not interact with traffic.
LRVs are operated by fully trained and certified operators.
LRVs are quiet, producing about the same noise level as cars and trucks.
LRVs will accelerate and brake at varying speeds. Operators may periodically test the horn and bell.

Recently, SHA interns had the incredible opportunity to tour the Key Bridge Rebuild project and experience firsthand one of Maryland's most important infrastructure projects.

Our interns joined Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) Office of Engineering and Construction interns to learn about the project's progress, engineering milestones, and future plans. The group then traveled to the construction site for a boat tour, providing a unique perspective of the ongoing work and the massive equipment helping bring the new bridge to life.

During the visit, interns explored topics including pile driving operations, environmental stewardship, and the challenges of constructing a bridge in open water while maintaining vital shipping traffic.

Experiences like these give our interns a deeper understanding of transportation engineering and the collaboration required to deliver projects that will strengthen connectivity across our region. We're excited to see the next generation of transportation professionals in action!

A new chapter begins today!

Please join us in welcoming Maryland Department of Transportation Deputy Secretary Samantha Biddle as the Maryland Port Administration's Interim Executive Director.

Samantha has had a long and successful public and private sector transportation career and has worked closely with the MPA over the years on many issues including our capital and operating budgets, state and federal legislation, economic development, infrastructure investments, and safety.

Samantha will help lead the Port of Baltimore as we continue driving business growth, generating jobs, and keeping one of the nation's leading ports moving forward.
