Dear Neighbors,

The Hanover Club has partnered with the Hanover Food Pantry and the Town’s “Meals on Wheels” program on a special mission to support our community during this COVID-19 crisis. ❤️ Over the past few days, our organization has donated a total of $745 - between both programs - from both our very own “Village Fund” and member donations.

These funds are being used to support their efforts to provide food assistance to our neighbors in need, including special “care packages” through the “Meals on Wheels” program to bring essentials to Seniors in our community (delivering to their doorsteps those “hard to find” items) so that they can stay at home safe and healthy!

We are now opening up this opportunity to help for others outside our organization to help us continue supporting the Hanover Food Pantry - please see below (and flyer) how YOU can also join our efforts!

*Drop off locations (each has a bin/box outside)

*Remember the virus can live on surfaces for an extended period of time so if you choose the drop-off option, sanitizer/hand-washing is a must 🙂

Governor Charlie Baker Orders All Non-Essential Businesses To Cease In Person Operation, Directs the Department of Public Health to Issue Stay at Home Advisory For Two Weeks
Updates Assembly Order to Limit Gatherings to 10 people

BOSTON – Today, Governor Charlie Baker issued an emergency order requiring all businesses and organizations that do not provide “COVID-19 Essential Services” to close their physical workplaces and facilities to workers, customers and the public as of Tuesday, March 24th at noon until Tuesday, April 7th at noon. These businesses are encouraged to continue operations remotely.

The Baker-Polito Administration issued a list of designated businesses and other organizations that provide essential services and workforces related to COVID-19 that shall continue to operate brick and mortar facilities during this two-week time period. This list is based on federal guidance and amended to reflect the needs of Massachusetts’ unique economy. While these businesses are designated as essential, they are urged to follow social distancing protocols for workers in accordance with guidance from the Department of Public Health.

Businesses and organizations not on the list of essential services are encouraged to continue operations through remote means that do not require workers, customers, or the public to enter or appear at the brick-and-mortar premises closed by the order.

Restaurants, bars, and other establishments that sell food and beverage products to the public are encouraged to continue to offer food for take-out and by delivery if they follow the social distancing protocols set forth in Department of Public Health guidance. On-premises consumption of food or drink is prohibited.

Due to evolving spread of COVID-19 in Massachusetts, Governor Baker has directed the Department of Public Health to issue a stay at home advisory outlining self-isolation and social distancing protocols. Residents are advised to stay home and avoid unnecessary travel and other unnecessary activities during this two-week time period. Residents over 70 years of age or with underlying health conditions, who are considered at high risk when exposed to COVID-19, should limit social interactions with other people as much as possible.

The Baker-Polito Administration does not believe Massachusetts residents can be confined to their homes and does not support home confinement for public health reasons.

The Baker-Polito Administration Order also limits gatherings to 10 people during the state of emergency, a reduction from the 25 person limit established in an earlier order.

This includes community, civic, public, leisure, faith-based events, and any similar event or activity that brings together more than 10 persons in any confined indoor or outdoor space. The order does not prohibit gatherings of more than 10 people in an outdoor space, like a park or athletic field.

The committee is so happy to introduce to you the Town of Hanover official keepsake ornament sponsored by the Hanover Chamber of Commerce and the businesses at Four Corners. It is our goal to release a new ornament each year during #HanoverWinterFest and donate the proceeds to a local family or organization in need.

This year, proceeds from this $20 ornament will go to the Neville family. The design using the Sylvester School was chosen because Courtney Neville was a dedicated educator. Buy an ornament on Black Friday at Renovisions, 150 Broadway, between noon and 2 PM. Ornaments will be available during Winter Festival at Abbey Knoll Photography, Renovisions and Portside Realty.

The Department of Unemployment Assistance’s (DUA) top priority is to protect unemployment claimants and make sure money disbursed through system is going to valid claimants. Recently there has been an enormous increase in fraud and attempted fraud. Criminal enterprises using stolen personal information from earlier national data breaches have been attempting to file fraudulent unemployment claims through the DUA system. This is part of a national unemployment fraud scheme. The DUA has updated this site allowing citizens to report if someone has applied for benefits using their information fraudulently: https://www.mass.gov/info-details/report-unemployment-benefits-fraud You will be able to report the fraud on this site. As always, my office is available to assist constituents. We can be contacted at [email protected] or 617-722-2460 ext. 8.
The Small Business Administration (SBA), in consultation with the Department of the Treasury, released the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) Loan Forgiveness Application and detailed instructions for the application: https://www.sba.gov/…/3245-0407%20SBA%20Form%203508%20PPP%2… The form and instructions inform borrowers how to apply for forgiveness of their PPP loans, consistent with the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act). SBA will also soon issue regulations and guidance to further assist borrowers as they complete their applications, and to provide lenders with guidance on their responsibilities. The form and instructions include several measures to reduce compliance burdens and simplify the process for borrowers, including: Options for borrowers to calculate payroll costs using an “alternative payroll covered period” that aligns with borrowers’ regular payroll cycles Flexibility to include eligible payroll and non-payroll expenses paid or incurred during the eight-week period after receiving their PPP loan Step-by-step instructions on how to perform the calculations required by the CARES Act to confirm eligibility for loan forgiveness Borrower-friendly implementation of statutory exemptions from loan forgiveness reduction based on rehiring by June 30 Addition of a new exemption from the loan forgiveness reduction for borrowers who have made a good-faith, written offer to rehire workers that was declined The PPP was created by the CARES Act to provide forgivable loans to eligible small businesses to keep American workers on the payroll during the COVID-19 pandemic. The documents released today will help small businesses seek forgiveness at the conclusion of the eight week covered period, which begins with the disbursement of their loans. Complaint against Kent's Carpetland I purchased a carpet runner from Kent's Carpetland in Hanover on Dec. 3, 2018. The owner said the carpet would be done on Saturday Dec. 8, and he would call me to come pick it up. I didn't hear anything on Saturday, so went there on Monday Dec. 10 to pick it up. The sign said open 9-5, and I was there at 4 pm, but the store was dark, locked up. I called their phone #, and it rang and rang, no answering message or anything. I called again all day Tues. Dec. 11, same thing. Drove there again, all locked up and closed at 3 pm. I posted on Facebook if anyone knew what was happening at the store, and someone came on and told me they had closed permanently on Saturday, Dec. 8! So, they deliberately took my order, and $200, and then closed permanently 5 days later? How incredibly unethical, to take my $$ and then close the business illegally 5 days later??? All of the rugs and stock are still stacked up in the store, could I somehow get in there and get our carpet? Did they even prepare the carpet as promised?
