This week, Lower Salford Township welcomed Secretary Russell Redding for a tour of the Jacob Reiff Streambank Restoration Project alongside partners and organizations from across the region.

Led by Ryan Beltz of the Perkiomen Watershed Conservancy, the tour highlighted both Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the restoration efforts within Jacob Reiff Park and showcased the environmental impact of streambank restoration and watershed protection projects. The project is anticipated to take nearly 2 million gallons of water “offline,” helping to reduce flooding both locally and downstream.

Projects like this play an important role in improving water quality, reducing erosion, restoring natural habitats, and protecting local waterways.

Attendees included representatives from the Berks, Bucks, Lehigh, and Montgomery County Conservation Districts, HRG Consultants, the Montgomery County Planning Commission, the Pennsylvania State Conservation Commission, Representative Webster’s office, and the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture.

The project was selected as a model initiative to help demonstrate the value of continued investment in these types of conservation efforts statewide.

This project received funding through the Pennsylvania Agricultural Conservation Assistance Program (ACAP), which provides grant funding for projects that reduce sediment runoff while improving water quality throughout Pennsylvania communities.

We look forward to continuing efforts that protect and improve the community’s natural resources for years to come.
