🚒 A Message to Our Community - PLEASE SHARE

One of the things that makes Lower Paxton Township special is the strong relationship between our firefighters and the residents we serve. We want our community to know that if you see our personnel out training, grabbing lunch, or familiarizing themselves with buildings and neighborhoods, we welcome you to stop by, ask questions, and learn more about what we are doing.

Recently, our crews were conducting training at an apartment complex and had an awkward interaction with a resident. We understand that seeing fire apparatus and firefighters operating around your home can sometimes raise questions or concerns. Please know that before utilizing private property for training, our personnel obtain permission from the property owner or management. Our intent is never to inconvenience residents, but rather to ensure we are prepared to provide the highest level of service when an emergency occurs.

Training in apartment complexes, commercial buildings, and other occupancies allows firefighters to understand apparatus positioning, access points, water supply locations, building layouts, and other critical factors before an emergency ever happens. When responding to a fire, especially in smoke-filled or zero-visibility conditions, having previous knowledge of a building can make a significant difference in how quickly crews can locate occupants, perform rescues, and bring the incident under control.

Simply put, the more familiar we are with your building and neighborhood before an emergency, the better prepared we are to help you on your worst day.

We ask for your partnership in this effort. If you see us training and have questions, please come talk with us. If something we are doing is causing an inconvenience or concern, approach our personnel respectfully and let us know. We will always do our best to accommodate residents while still accomplishing the training necessary to keep our firefighters prepared.

Thank you for your continued support and for helping us make Lower Paxton Township a safer community for everyone.

If you have questions and concerns, or want to point out a positive experience with one of our crews… please contact Deputy Chief Graham at 717-657-5656

With the nice weather today, Bureau personnel took the opportunity to get outside and put in some quality training reps.

Crews spent time focusing on Driver/Operator training, hose line advancements, and aerial operations to sharpen critical skills and maintain operational readiness. While the weather certainly made for a great training day, this type of hands-on training is a regular part of operations within the Bureau and occurs year-round to ensure our personnel remain proficient in the skills needed to serve our community.

💧 Attention - Hydrant Flushing Continues 💦

Veolia will continue conducting routine fire hydrant flushing next week as part of their annual maintenance program.

Flushing in the attached area will begin on Monday, June 8 and continue through Friday, June 12. Flushing will take place in between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.

While the flushing is focused around the areas in the attached map all residents should be aware, as you may still be impacted by the process.

What to Expect:

- You may experience temporary water discoloration or reduced water pressure during flushing activities. Flushing will take place between 7 am to 5 pm. each day.

- If discoloration occurs, please run your cold water tap until it runs clear before use.

- Avoid doing laundry during flushing hours to prevent staining.

Why Do They Flush:

- Remove Sediment and Deposits: Over time, naturally occurring minerals, rust, and sediment accumulate in water pipes. Flushing removes these materials that settle at the bottom of the pipes, preventing buildup that could affect water quality.

- Maintain Water Quality: Flushing helps ensure fresh water circulates throughout the entire distribution system.

- Test System Performance: The process allows Veolia to verify that hydrants are functioning properly, check water pressure levels, and identify any issues with valves or the distribution system.

- Ensure Fire Protection: Flushing confirms that hydrants are operational and can deliver adequate water flow and pressure needed for firefighting purposes in emergencies.

Regular hydrant flushing is a proactive maintenance practice that protects public health and ensures the water distribution system operates efficiently and reliably.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as Veolia works to maintain the quality and reliability of your water service. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact their customer service team at 888-299-8972.
