Poor credit and lack of credit scores impacts millions of Americans, but can play an especially large role in preventing African American and Hispanic households from achieving homeownership. These households have higher rates of low credit, credit invisibility and unscorable credit under traditional models, which prevents them from accessing a mortgage to buy a first home. Homeownership can be a key factor in building wealth. To learn more about this change, go to: FHFA Announcement on Credit Score Models | Federal Housing Finance Agency.
PHRC's C.R.O.W.N. Act Conference was an impactful time of learning and sharing about race-based hair discrimination. Thank you to our speakers, panelists, and attendees for joining us in Philadelphia for this conference!

Fair Housing is the law! A reasonable accommodation is a change in policy, practice, or procedure that is needed for an individual in the protected class of ‘disability.’ In housing, existing handicap parking may not be sufficient to meet the needs of individuals because of location, access, and/or availability.
If a housing provider receives a reasonable accommodation request for reserved parking, their responsibility is to evaluate this request in a timely and fair manner, complying with fair housing laws.

Fair Housing is the law! The Fair Housing Act requires agencies and organizations that receive federal funds to both combat acts of housing discrimination as well as to work to change our current housing landscape, which has been shaped by public policies and private practices into a system in which some neighborhoods and groups of people have quality housing, investment, and wealth-building opportunities that others do not.
PHRC takes very seriously the charge to foster communities that are inclusive to all, regardless of protected class, and to support programs and practices that overcome housing segregation. If you want information about those efforts, call the PA Fair Housing Line at 855-866-5718 or contact [email protected]

It's Fair Housing Friday and we are concerned for the welfare of low income tenants. An eviction on a tenant’s record can significantly increase barriers to future housing opportunities, yet only 10% have legal representation vs 90 % of property owners. The statistics are staggering! We MUST do better to make sure ALL are represented and given a fair chance.
