Susquehanna Township School District retires Indian mascot

“A school district mascot should be a source of pride, celebration and unity for all members of the community,” Rawls said. He said that under the district’s current name and logo, those goals could not exist “while at the same time being offensive and doing harm to our neighbors and friends in the native community.”

Derek Chauvin found guilty of murder and manslaughter in death of George Floyd

JUST VERDICT IN CHAUVIN TRIAL IS
A CALL FOR CHANGE AND A SIGN OF HOPE
Statement from PHRC Executive Director Chad Dion Lassiter, MSW: “After nearly a year of protests and civil unrest brought forth by the tragic death of George Floyd at the knee of Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, The Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission (PHRC), stands with the verdict of the Chauvin trial and congratulates the jury on its prudent decision.”

“George Floyd, and so many others of color, simply should not have died. This verdict is a call for the Commonwealth and the nation to follow suit and make the necessary changes to dismantle systemic racism and bias in our institutions, communities, schools and our homes. Let us take this moment and use it to move forward towards change with peace, calm and perseverance.”

Who is the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission?

The Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission, or PHRC, enforces state laws that prohibit discrimination: the Pennsylvania Human Relations Act, which covers discrimination in employment, housing, commercial property, education and public accommodations; and the Pennsylvania Fair Educational Opportunities Act, which is specific to postsecondary education and secondary vocational and trade schools.

In general, PA law prohibits discrimination based on race; color; religious creed; ancestry; age (40 and over); sex; national origin; familial status (only in housing); handicap or disability and the use, handling or training of support or guide animals for disability. Retaliation for filing a complaint, opposing unlawful behavior or assisting investigations is also illegal.

PHRC investigates employment discrimination complaints on behalf of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity CommissionOpens In A New Window, or EEOC, and housing discrimination complaints on behalf of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban DevelopmentOpens In A New Window, or HUD. These partnerships protect the rights of complainants under both state and federal law.

The law also empowers the commission to educate the public in order to prevent discrimination and foster equal opportunity; and to address incidents of bias that may lead to tension between racial, ethnic and other groups.

We call governor and attorney general Shapiro transfer us to these people to help for how we was discriminated they just got hold of us recently saying it's not their jurisdiction so don't go by these people they will not help and apparently they don't listen to the governor don't care and they hang up on you if you're discriminated or not...... They will string you along making you feel more horrible horrible in life cuz you went through something you don't deserve what was the point of the governor and attorney general connecting us to these people if they're not going to help obviously governor and attorney general saw something once it get done I got nowhere because these people don't do their jobs and they don't apparently follow the law all they worry about is money more likely and not just coming out and saying we can't help when you make the first complaint..... What a joke what a f****** joke I feel sorry for these people that has a pathetic job that don't even do it yet on their sites and that it talks about discrimination and they won't do nothing about it pure laziness they shame me so I'm going to shame them for having a pathetic laziness of a life that don't know how to do their jobs and don't want to listen to the governor or Attorney general when they connected us to these people....... The news will be reported cuz we are getting a news involved armstrong county, and human relations will be put out there I want people out there to know how pathetic Pennsylvania and those in pennsylvania is
This past Friday our Woodland Hills Football Team played at Peters Twp in a WPIAL Playoff Game. In the year 2020 sad we still have to experience racism. Their band dressed up with blackface outfits. A shame their band director, Milt Barney, and athletic director, Brian Geyer, permitted this.
