Sen. Collett Remarks on GOP Claims of Election Fraud - Senator Maria Collett

"If last week's election wasn't open and secure enough to trust the legitimacy of the outcome of the presidential contest, where is your outrage over illegal votes and mass fraud in all of the other PA races? I think I know the answer."

On Thursday, Senator Maria Collett called on Republicans to consider the dangerous effects of spreading the myth of widespread voter fraud in Pennsylvania's election.

Senator Jay Costa

You may have recently seen news reports of Republicans in the House and Senate seeking to do a partisan review of last week's election. Here is why I oppose these efforts.

There has been no evidence of fraud and there's no reason for this additional review. It is reprehensible for Republicans to parrot allegations from the outgoing President without any evidence, casting aspersions on our state and county officials who conducted themselves with the utmost integrity. There was a thorough review of the primary election by the Department of State and the broad, bipartisan Election Law Advisory Board was created earlier this year to review the general election and updates to election law. We do not need additional review, especially one as partisan as what is suggested now by the Republicans in the House and Senate.
Furthermore, fifteen Republicans were elected to the Pennsylvania Senate in last week's election, and yet they are now in Harrisburg casting doubt on the results.

If the Republicans truly believe there was fraud in our election, I would hope that the Republican members elected last week would recuse themselves from any investigation - given that they are not confident in their wins.

It is the peak of hypocrisy to condemn the results at the top of the ballot while claiming victory in Senate races. They simply cannot have it both ways. It is illogical and anti-democratic. This is a Republican effort to undermine public faith in our elections without cause.

Today we honor the countless brave men and women who sacrificed so much in service to their country.

They stormed the beaches of Normandy.

They sacrificed in the Chosin Reservoir.

They fought in Khe Sanh.

And battled in Ramadi.

To all veterans, thank you for your service and sacrifice.

Have a Happy Veterans Day.

Happy 245th Birthday to the U.S. Marine Corps!

Whether it be on the beaches of Iwo Jima, the frozen tundra of the Chosin Reservoir or in the streets of Fallujah City, Marines have fought and died to protect our way of life.

Thank you for your service.

We are excited to announce that we are hosting a Virtual ACA Enrollment Tour to help Pennsylvanians signup for affordable health insurance plans.

Members of the Senate Democratic Caucus are offering 15 events primarily in a remote setting, with the utmost consideration of COVID-19 safety. Constituents will be able to make appointments for Zoom consultations with health insurance navigators online.

The virtual health care enrollment events aims to help constituents through the process of selecting an insurance plan through the new Pennsylvania state exchange, Pennie.

Senators will also host virtual townhalls with the PA Insurance Department and navigators to answer general questions in a safe, remote group setting.

This is the first year that Pennsylvanians will be using a state exchange to purchase insurance instead of the federal ACA exchange.

Pennie will be open for new and updated enrollments from November 1 to January 15 and subsidies are available to the many state residents who will qualify.

Biden defeats Trump in an election he made about character of the nation and the President

The people have spoken!

Thank you to the voters, poll workers and election officials that made sure that democracy reigns in the United States of America.

America has chosen Democrat Joe Biden as its 46th president, CNN projects, turning at a time of national crisis to a man whose character was forged by aching personal tragedy and who is pledging to restore calm and truth in American government after Donald Trump's, exhausting and manic single term.

Election Results

Pennsylvania election officials are doing exactly what they should be doing, which is making sure every single vote is counted.

Please be patient and stay calm.

You can follow along with the ongoing counting here ⬇️ votespa.com/counting.

While we know there may be a rush to predict the outcome of the election, we are prioritizing accuracy and security above all else. We want PA voters to know that their votes will be accurately counted and verified.  Results of some races may not be known on the night of the election.

Two years ago today, 11 men and women of the Jewish community were killed in an act of senseless violence in the Squirrel Hill neighborhood of Pittsburgh.

One person's hatred led them to end the lives of incredible people that were simply worshiping. Following the attack on the Tree of Life, New Light and Dor Hadash congregations, a community, state and nation came together to denounce the bigotry and hatred pervasive in these senseless acts of violence.

Today, we remember the 11 souls that were taken far too soon. Our hearts go out to their friends & family members during this painful time.

House Co-Sponsorship Memoranda

Today, we unanimously passed a bill that builds off the state’s historic “Clean Slate Law” to safely provide second chances to residents who are looking to turn their lives around.

The legislation will provide an opportunity to automatically expunge an individual's record if they have been fully acquitted of all charges as well as automatic sealing of crimes that have been pardoned, until the expungement process is complete.

It also provides a clarification to the original "Clean Slate" bill, which reflects the intent of the Legislature that restitution must be paid prior to the issuance of an automatically sealed record.

House Bill 440 provides:
• An opportunity to automatically expunge an individual's record if they have been fully acquitted of all charges, based on the same conduct, or arising from the same alleged criminal episode
• Clarification to the original "Clean Slate" bill, which reflects the intent of the Legislature that restitution must be paid prior to the issuance of an automatically sealed record
• Automatic sealing of crimes that have been pardoned, until the expungement process is complete
