Pennsylvania Beer Alliance

Pennsylvania Beer Alliance The Beer Biz blog: www.pabeeralliance.wordpress.com The Pennsylvania Beer Alliance, is a full-service professional trade association representing primarily the wholesale tier of distributors of malt and brewed beverages in Pennsylvania.

The members of the PBA operate in an area of business that is heavily controlled and regulated by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. As such, the alliance has an active program of monitoring and often times initiating or opposing legislation affecting our member companies. The PBA strongly supports the licensed three tier distributing system for the sale of malt and brewed beverages in Pennsylvania. In addition to a wide range of benefits for our member companies, the PBA is a valuable resource to policy makers and the public on alcohol regulation, educational programs designed to combat underage drinking and drunk driving; as well as assisting adult consumers with information on product availability in Pennsylvania.

We are sad to see the end of Harrisburg Beer Week but we are honored to have been a sponsor of such a great event! Cheers!

After a lot of careful consideration, we have made the tough decision to discontinue Harrisburg Beer Week.

We want to thank every single person who has helped make Harrisburg Beer Week such a success over the last six years -- sponsors, breweries, bars, restaurants, all businesses, volunteers, and every #DrinkLocal enthusiast who supported us from day one.

YOU are the reason we were able to keep going and achieve our ultimate goal of propping up local craft beer while raising nearly $200,000 for Harrisburg River Rescue and Emergency Services.

Fortunately, there are plenty of ways to push forward Harrisburg Beer Week's mission! Individually, our team continues to support our local craft beer community and to give to our friends at Harrisburg River Rescue.

Here are some ways you can help Harrisburg River Rescue:
🏌Sign-up for their Par 3 Golf Tournament at Harrisburg Golf Simulator on Aug. 29: fb.com/events/326626671678698/
👕 Buy merch -- harrisburgriverrescue.org/Merchandise_c_7.html
🎅 2nd Annual Cocoa with Santa for the Kids - Dec. 12 (pending)

THANK YOU again from the entire Harrisburg Beer Week team. We've had a blast making memories with all of you in the name of #BeerForGood!

State Police, Liquor Control Board Remind Licensed Liquor Establishments to Require Masks, Follow Social Distancing

Very important message! We must all do our part to help stop the spread of COVID-19.

A Message to Licensed Restaurant Owners, Staff and Patrons.

As we have seen in other states and now in Pittsburgh, bars are becoming the center of debate concerning the spread of COVID-19.

To avoid this, we all must do what we can to follow guidance provided by the state to limit the spread of COVID-19. Our industry will only be hurt if we do not.

Below is a story from Physicians Weekly, titled "Packed Bars Serve Up New Rounds Of COVID Contagion." This is a non-political story that does a good job of explaining why health officials across the country have a concern about bars.

We know it is unfair to target all within the industry, and the article cites some examples of bad apples packing their establishments. And, we know establishments are having difficulty with some patrons who don't want to follow guidance, particularly since the mask issue has been politicized.

But, we hope everyone realizes that those types of actions will hurt everyone ... tavern owners, employees, and patrons. And, it could be a death sentence to some businesses.

Please take a moment to read this story from Physician Weekly.

Pennsylvania Licensed Beverage and Tavern Association

Patios and decks are now open throughout Pennsylvania. While we are all excited for some kind of normalcy, please remember to be patient and kind as your local businesses tackle new obstacles. Cheers!

A Message To Patrons of Pennsylvania taverns and licensed restaurants from the Pennsylvania Licensed Beverage and Tavern Association ...

Yes! patios and decks are now open throughout Pennsylvania! And our Members are very excited to serve you!

Please remember that this is a new world with new rules for restaurants and taverns. You're most likely going to a restaurant that recently put together an outdoor seating plan in hopes of generating enough money to hire back staff and keep their business alive. They are trying their best but everything may not be perfect.

Some may even be setting up in the streets or in parking lots. It's going to be fun but it's also going to be hard on the employees. You'll see them wearing masks no matter how hot it gets. And, possibly you'll see them walk a long distance to get more water. They are going to be hot and most likely overwhelmed because restaurants are not set up for this, and they'll be navigating new guidance from the state.

Please help your servers in this journey by doing the following:

1. Don't over-run your server. Try your best to ask for everything you need at once. Remember it could be a long walk from the street into the building for more water or anything else. Help them out by asking all at once.

2. No mask jokes or your views on them. The server has to wear it. They have no choice.

3. The server is wearing the mask to protect you and you have nothing on to protect them. Please remember if you sneeze or cough, do so into your elbow or into a tissue. COVID-19 has not gone away.

4. Wash your hands. It's for both your good health and that of restaurant staffing.

5. Be mindful of your time. Turning over tables in a timely manner will help others. So, eat your meal. Have some drinks but please do not sit at a table all night unless you continue to spend money. These restaurants are working with very limited space. They can't afford for you to sit there 4 hours without ordering. Yes people do do that. All the time.

6. Don't come out if you're sick. That's not good for anyone.

7. Social distancing. Keep your kids at the table. Yes. They're cute but don't let them run around.

8. Cut everyone some slack. Everything may be a bit slow at first because this is basically a new job for everyone. We're all navigating this new world with new rules. Please be kind and understanding.

9. Tip generously. Please treat servers and bartenders right and leave a decent tip. Remember, many in the restaurant industry have not been able to work for nearly two months. They need your help.

10. Be pleasant. You should be happy. You're finally out!

11. Realize that the staff is doing their best.

Finally, on behalf of the Board of Directors and Staff of the Pennsylvania Licensed Beverage and Tavern Association, WELCOME BACK. Our Members are ready to serve you.
