The organization was created in 1990 to address the unmet need for affordable housing in South Central Pennsylvania. In 2002, Tri-County HDC merged with its main competitor, Susquehanna Housing Initiatives, to more efficiently utilize the region’s affordable housing resources. The merger resulted in Tri-County being the sole CHDO in the Harrisburg area. Tri-County has developed 524 units of affordable rental housing and 144 affordable, for-sale homes. This has provided many opportunities for low and moderate-income residents of Cumberland, Dauphin and Perry Counties to obtain safe, decent housing in addition to helping to stabilize neighborhoods and creating a foundation to increase residents’ self-sufficiency and quality of life. Today, Tri-County operates with 18 active volunteer board members and four full-time employees.
