Pennsylvania is in the cross hairs of yet another winter storm that could include ice, sleet and snow.

Falls on ice- or snow-covered sidewalks, steps, driveways and porches account for many cold-weather injuries. Use caution if you have to walk outside and keep your steps and walkways as free of ice and snow as possible.

Visit www.health.state.pa.us for more winter weather tips.

It’s cold out there, so stay inside if you can. If you have to go outside: dress warmly, cover your mouth with a scarf to protect your lungs from the cold air; and keep your trips brief. Never ignore shivering – it’s an important sign that your body is losing heat. If you start to shiver, it’s time to go inside!

Heatstroke | In and Around The Car | Keeping Kids Safe | Parents Central

July 31 is National Heat Stroke Prevention Day. If you see a child alone in a hot vehicle, call 911 or your local emergency number immediately. If the child is in distress due to heat, get that child out as quickly as possible. Cool the child rapidly by spraying the child with cool water or with water from a garden hose (an ice bath isn’t necessary nor desirable). Visit www.safercar.gov/heatstroke for more information.

You live by your daily routine and it helps you get things done. Be extra careful, though, if you have to change any part of that routine. This is more likely to happen when you, your spouse/partner, or caregiver who helps with your children, forgets that your child is in the back seat.
