The .6-mile Leonardsville Trail at Hickory Run State Park splits off from the Stage Trail and is great for a cool walk on a hot day.

Here’s a belated happy 79th birthday to Smokey Bear! Even though he has grown over the years, his message of wildfire prevention still holds true.
Check out this photo of a younger Smokey visiting Parker Dam State Park in 1976 when he was only 32!
You can easily identify cucumber-tree magnolias in late summer by their seed pods, which can be quite brightly colored before they darken in the fall.
Songbirds, squirrels, and mice eat the seeds from these pods, which can often be found littered on the forest floor.
At one-mile in length, the Nature Trail at Poe Valley State Park is great for short, cool walk on a hot day.
This loop trail takes a scenic trip along Big Poe Creek and past dense thickets of mountain laurel.
Look for late summer wildflowers and listen for woodland birds, like red-eyed vireos.

Goldfinches start nesting later in the season than any other bird in the Northeast, which may benefit them -- as that is when seeds mature on their favored food plants.
Look for goldfinches searching for downy fibers like thistle for their nests, which are woven so tightly that they will hold water.
The 1.5-mile Hartman Trail at Canoe Creek State Park - DCNR challenges hikers to climb the slope of Moore’s Hill to the ridge, where the trail becomes a narrow, rocky path through scenic woodlands.

Tomorrow, July 21, marks 20 years since the 301-foot high Kinzua Viaduct was partially destroyed by a tornado in 2003 while undergoing restoration work.
The heavy winds struck the side of the viaduct shifting the center of gravity, causing eleven of the towers to be torn from their concrete bases and thrown to the valley floor.
Today, park visitors can once again walk a portion of the Kinzua Bridge while venturing out on the 225-foot, high skywalk.

Summer wildflowers are blooming in Pennsylvania woodlands! Look for native milkw**ds which attract monarchs -- milkw**ds are the only plants where they will lay their eggs!
Swamp milkw**d thrives in sunny openings of swamps, marshes, bogs, and open areas along stream banks and ditches.
The Overlook Trail at Raymond B. Winter State Park starts on Sand Mountain Road and climbs through an oak and maple forest.
Following a short and steep hike, hikers are rewarded with a view of the lake from 300 feet above the park.

Areas in the southern portion of the Delaware Canal Towpath are closed due to flood damage and clean up.
