Did you know that tree-killing invasive insects and diseases can lurk both inside and on the surface of firewood?

While these insects and diseases don’t travel far on their own, transporting firewood allows them to move hundreds of miles and start infestations in new places! If you are going to enjoy a campfire at a state park during these colder months, be sure to follow these tips. ⬇ #FirewoodMonth #iConservePA

The bluffs at Erie Bluffs State Park are a product of the glacier which occupied the Lake Erie basin as the last ice was melting back from Pennsylvania between 12,000 and 13,000 years ago.

The 90-foot high bluffs are continually eroded by the modern lake and are among the most dynamic landscapes in Pennsylvania. Elk Creek has cut down through the sedimentary layers to the shale bedrock to meet the current lake level. Learn more ➡ https://bit.ly/3nUuovT #EarthScienceWeek #PAStateParks #PAGeology

The overlooks at Susquehannock State Park provide a view of geologically young processes that formed the Susquehanna Gorge in some of the state’s oldest rocks.

As glaciers melted, they sent massive amounts of water and eroded sediment downstream enlarging rivers and carving into the bedrock. The Hawk Point Overlook offers a view to the south of the top end of the Conowingo Reservoir. The view at Wisslers Run Overlook is a natural, rocky riverbed in the stretch of river below Holtwood Dam. Learn more ➡ https://bit.ly/3iYOVvN #PAGeology #EarthScienceWeek

A very big thank you goes out to these special volunteers ⤵

Divers Volunteer Time to Clean Up Presque Isle Waters: https://bit.ly/3cZt1a6

The International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) is the world’s largest volunteer effort to improve the health of the world’s oceans and waterways. For the last 33 years, the ICC has brought communities together with the common goal of collecting and documenting the trash littering their coastline.

Erie County has been involved in the ICC for the past 18 years in an effort to protect the Commonwealth’s 77 miles of Lake Erie coastline. This year’s cleanup efforts focused on 20 sites along the Lake Erie shoreline and watershed. 753 volunteers removed 2,119 pounds of trash, tires and other littered items from along the shoreline and waterways, and 209 bags of trash were collected. Cleanup efforts weren’t only limited to the land though. For the second straight year, dive teams took to the water on Presque Isle. 21 divers focused cleanup efforts in Misery Bay near Perry’s Monument and collected over 120 pounds of trash.

Proper Tick Removal

Don't neglect checking yourself and pets for ticks just because the weather is getting cooler. Adult ticks are present in the fall!

If you do find an embedded tick on you, the CDC recommends using fine-tipped tweezers, grabbing it by the head, and pulling straight up and out. Learn more ➡️ http://bit.ly/2q3F4NZ
