In a unanimous vote during last week's BCAP’s Annual Meeting of Membership, the Association elected a new Director while re-electing two incumbent Directors to three-year terms on the Board – and choosing a new Association Secretary.

Dave Keefe, Chief Programming Officer of Atlantic Broadband, was elected to the Board for a three-year term. Keefe was formerly CEO of Atlantic Broadband, having formed the company with business partner Ed Holleran in 2003. Before launching Atlantic Broadband, Keefe was COO of Horizon Telecom International in Brazil where he managed all aspects of network design, construction, marketing, sales, finance and operations. He was also CEO of the largest cable companies in Poland and Hungary and COO of Wharf Cable Hong Kong, having led operations supporting millions of customers, thousands of employees and expansive service areas. “Dave brings countless strengths and decades of industry experience to the Association’s deliberations and decision-making,” said Bob Wieand, BCAP Chairman “We’re thrilled to welcome him to BCAP’s Board of Directors.”

Joe Lorah, Corporate Director of Marketing, Customer Service for Blue Ridge Communications, was elected Secretary of the Association and continues his tenure on the Board of Directors which began in 2009. Lorah replaces departing Secretary David Dane, formerly of Atlantic Broadband.

Re-elected to three-year terms on the Board were Tim Himmelwright, Communications/Public Affairs Coordinator at Service Electric Cable TV & Communications; and Chris Thomas, Government Relations Director at Time Warner Cable, Northeast Ohio. Mark Romano, Vice President, Affiliate Sales and Marketing for Outdoor Channel was re-elected Associate Representative to the Board; Sara Timmins, Affiliate Sales Account Executive at Retirement Living TV (RLTV), was re-elected to a one-year term as Assistant Associate Representative.

Congratulations to all new and re-elected members of the Board!

Marty Brophy – President & CEO of Shen-Heights TV, longtime member of BCAP’s Board of Directors and Association Chairman during 1997-1998 – has been awarded CableFAX’ prestigious Independent Lifetime Achievement Award. This much-deserved recognition will include a formal award presentation during ceremonies September 25 at CableFAX Program Awards/Top Operators breakfast at the Yale Club in New York City.

“No one is more deserving of a cable lifetime achievement award than Marty Brophy, whose family resides among the earliest cable pioneers in forming Shen-Heights TV…along with his neighbors Gans Multimedia and Service Electric,” said Dan Tunnell, BCAP President. “He has contributed to his community in addition to our industry and has been a staunch advocate for cable in Pennsylvania and the nation. BCAP applauds CableFAX for its selection of Marty Brophy as the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award.”

The link below takes you to the CableFAX profile of one of Shenandoah's favorite sons. Congratulations Marty!

The cable modem, first introduced by Comcast, Time Warner Cable and other cable operators in 1996, is the device powering new home security and automation services. Comcast and other cable MSOs are also beginning to test ways to offer subscribers home healthcare solutions.

Service Electric adds 3D network

BCAP Associate Member WITF will be awarded the DuPont-Columbia Silver Baton award – considered the broadcasting equivalent of the Pulitzer Prize – for its coverage of natural gas drilling and its environmental impact in Pennsylvania. The award, announced last week by CNN anchor Christiane Amanpour at the Alfred I. DuPont-Columbia University Awards Center, will be presented January 22 at Columbia University’s Low Library. Congrats to everyone at WITF...and kudos to Service Electric Cablevision, "going 3-D" with Associate Member Discovery Communications.

The local cable service Thursday launched 3net, a joint venture television network from Discovery Communications, Sony Corporation and IMAX Corp., that will be available to its 100,000 customers in northeast Pennsylvania.
