Updated Philadelphia food distribution information (September 28, 2020):

Food sites continue to distribute free, healthy food to families throughout the city with some changes to locations. The public is encouraged to confirm locations and schedules by calling 311 or visiting http://phila.gov/food before going to a site. Philly311 can also provide information on local food pantries.

Residents of all ages can continue to pick up a box of food (one box per household) at food sites on Thursdays between 10 a.m. and noon every week. Residents do not have to present ID or proof of income.

Follow the instructions and send your mail-in ballot back via U.S. Mail as soon as possible so your vote counts. Please don't delay.

The first 275,000 mail-in ballots are on their way to voters in Philadelphia this week. When you get your mail in ballot at home, please fill it out (follow all the instructions) and put it in the U.S. Mail as soon as possible so it is received by the Philadelphia City Commissioners Office in enough time for your ballot to count.

When you are filling out your mail- in ballots, take the time to VOTE YES ON BALLOT QUESTION #2. The ballot question is my legislation that would create the Office of Victims Advocate in Philadelphia.

If the measure is approved by the voters, it would be headed by the Victim Advocate, who would be appointed by the Mayor with the advice and consent of City Council. The responsibilities of the Office would include the following: Advocating for victims of crimes, as individuals and as a group; Ensuring that crime victims know their rights; Promoting cooperation among agencies that serve crime victims; and Providing training and support to agencies that interact with crime victims.

It is a necessary office to have in Philadelphia and I urge everyone to VOTE YES ON BALLOT QUESTION #2 whether you are voting by mail or at a polling place on November 3.

It was a pleasure to walk with my friend, Africa Cultural Alliance of North America, Inc. (ACANA) Founder/Chief Executive Officer Voffee Jabateh, during yesterday's tour of parts of the Southwest Philadelphia business area. We handed out PPE equipment along the 5500 block of Chester Avenue and 6100 to 6500 blocks of Woodland Avenue. We stopped by businesses and talked to owners, employees and shoppers while distributing the PPE supplies.

Long time Philadelphia community activist and civic leader Bennie Swans passed this week. He was a giant and legend fighting gang violence in Philadelphia and saving the youth. He was dedicated, committed, and passionate in creating opportunities for our youth and safe streets.
Bennie Swans was one of the founders of the Crisis Intervention Network, an organization dedicated to steering young people away from gang waring to doing something positive with their lives. He left Phila. to live in South Carolina. Job well done!

Wilson Park food giveaway 9-11-2020

Thank you to everyone who came out to my free food giveaway this past Friday at the Wilson Park Housing Development, 2500 Jackson Street in South Philadelphia in partnership with Philabundance. We gave out 10,146 pounds of food at the event.

Other partnering organizations included the Wilson Park Residents Council, The Party Savers, U.S. Census Bureau, and the Philadelphia Police Department’s First District.

My office, working with Philabundance and the Share Food Program, has distributed at least 76,543 pounds of food (almost 38.3 tons) to residents of the Second District this summer during the COVID19 pandemic.

The U.S. Census Bureau was on hand to help people fill out Census forms on site and Philadelphia City Commissioner Omar Sabir’s office registered people to vote in the upcoming November election.

Stay tuned to my social media pages for updates on possible additional food giveaways in the future.
