AG Reaches Settlement With N.Y.-Based Company for Their Alleged Role in the Illegal Distribution of Millions of Telemarketing Calls to Pennsylvanians

Have you gotten telemarketing calls after registering for Pennsylvania’s Do Not Call list?
My office has settled with a New York-based company, Fluent, LLC, for its role in thousands of Pennsylvanian’s getting unwanted calls. (link)

Fluent, LLC and its subsidiaries used promotional offers involving popular retailers’ gift cards as incentives while collecting personal information that was resold to telemarketing companies, including thousands of people on the PA and federal Do Not Call lists.

“Do Not Call” means just that, and my office will continue to do all we can to aggressively target those who illegally cross those boundaries.

Now Fluent and its subsidiaries are prevented from contacting Pennsylvanians on the Do Not Call lists without first receiving the consumer’s express agreement in writing.

Vehicle Loan Consumers Will Get Back $705,000 from Predatory Title Loan Company via AG Settlement

Today I can share that my office reached a new settlement with a Delaware-based title loan company that will refund Pennsylvanian consumers $705,000.

Auto Equity Loans of DE, LLC, can no longer operate as a car title loan business and must cancel and stop all payments on remaining car title loans to PA customers, worth more than $1 million in debt cancellation.

Auto Equity Loans was a predatory lender preying on Pennsylvanians, thinking it could avoid our laws because it was based in Delaware. We do not care where you are located; if you exploit PA consumers, you will hear from us.

Consumers who believe they have been taken advantage of by similar practices at another car title lender should file a complaint online or contact the Office of Attorney General at [email protected] or 1-800-441-2555.

Settlement with Auto Equity Loans also Results in Debt Cancellation for Pennsylvanians HARRISBURG – Attorney General Michelle Henry today announced a settlement with a Delaware-based title loan company that levied illegal interest rates — with some borrowers paying more than 200% in annual inter...

Yesterday I was honored to be a keynote speaker for the Intensive Trial Advocacy Program at my alma mater, Widener Commonwealth Law.

I had a great discussion with the students, and I was happy to provide insight on how to best prepare for those first steps out of law school.

That’s what programs like ITAP are about: preparation to move from students to practicing attorneys.

When you have an opportunity like this, you have to meet it head-on and jump in. That is how you find out about the work, and about yourself.

05/16/2023

In honor of , let’s take a look at how the celebration began:

In 1962, a joint resolution of congress established the week-long celebration to recognize those in law enforcement who have lost their lives in the line of duty and for the safety and protection of others.

That same year, President John F. Kennedy Jr., made May 15 National Peace Officers Memorial Day.

Now, the week is a collaborative effort by many organization to provide resources and support while honoring those we’ve lost.

It's National Police Week and today we celebrate National Peace Officers Memorial Day.

AG Henry honors and recognizes the efforts and sacrifices of all of our law enforcement agents and officers. We remember the ultimate sacrifice of our fallen officers and their families.

AG Henry Secures $11 Million Settlement with Predatory Rent-to-Own Lender that Targeted Low-Income Borrowers

Today, Attorney General Michelle Henry announced that Snap Finance LLC and its affiliates agreed to a settlement of $11.4 million for predatory lending practices.

The lending company preyed on low-income Pennsylvanians by disguising one-year rent-to-own agreements as “100-Day Cash Payoffs” but then concealing balances owed and using deceptive collection practices.

The company now owes $7.3 million to consumers as restitution payments and another $3.15 million as consumer debt relief.

“This lender preyed upon Pennsylvanians who need to pay for big ticket, but necessary purchases over time,” Attorney General Henry said. “The consumers were presented with short pay-back periods, but after signing on the dotted line, were instead locked into long-term, high-interest rate loans. If you mislead Pennsylvanians to maximize your bottom line, we will hold you accountable.”

HARRISBURG– Attorney General Michelle Henry today announced a settlement of a lawsuit filed against Snap Finance LLC and its affiliates for $11.4 million.

Yesterday, as part of , I joined Office of the Governor of Pennsylvania at the Capitol to honor Pennsylvania officers who died in the line of duty.

We all hope we can someday go a year without losing any officers, but for now, let us honor those whom we have lost and the immense sorrow we feel at their passing.

Our charge is to ensure that law enforcement always has what they need, that we have their back and that if they pay the ultimate sacrifice - we never forget.
