How You Can Make a Difference in Southwest Local Schools

In response to the May 5 election, many members of our community have reached out asking how they can help support Southwest Local Schools. We are grateful for that generosity and commitment to our students, staff, and schools.

To provide an opportunity for those who would like to give, Southwest has created an option for private donations to directly support our schools.

Donations can be made through the District website (link below) by scrolling down and selecting the “Donate” button on the main page, or by delivering cash or a check to the District Office at 10800 Campbell Road, Harrison, Ohio 45030. You may also see the attached flyer and QR code.

Thank you for your continued support and for your willingness to invest in the success of our schools and our community. Together, we make a difference for our students.

Congratulations to the William Henry Harrison High School Class of 2026 graduates! 🎓💚

These seniors once walked the halls of Whitewater Valley and Miamitown before our schools came together as Miami Whitewater Elementary.

It was so special to welcome them back to MWE, watch them reconnect with former teachers, and give our current Wildcats a glimpse of what a Wildcat graduate looks like. Moments like these are a beautiful reminder of the strong roots and traditions that make our MWE family so special. Go cats!

Once again, the Southwest Local School District has received a Clean Audit Award from the Ohio Auditor of State, with no findings, comments, or management letter.

Eligible entities that receive this award meet the following criteria of a “clean” audit report:

The entity must file financial reports with the Auditor of State’s Office by the statutory due date, without extension, via the Hinkle System on the GAAP accounting basis.

The audit report does not contain any findings for recovery, material citations, material weaknesses, significant deficiencies, Uniform Guidance (Single Audit) findings, or questioned costs.
The entity’s management letter contains no comments related to:
- Ethics referrals
- Questioned costs less than the threshold per Uniform Guidance
- Lack of timely report submission
- Bank reconciliation issues
- Failure to obtain a timely Single Audit in accordance with Uniform Guidance
- Findings for recovery less than $500
- Public meetings or public records issues

The entity has no other financial or other concerns.

To our incredible teachers and amazing nurse Barb 💚

Thank you for being the heart of Miami Whitewater. Thank you for the early mornings, late afternoons, endless patience, constant encouragement, and the countless ways you show up for our students every single day.

You are problem-solvers, cheerleaders, safe places, role models, caregivers, and difference-makers. You celebrate the big wins, help carry the hard days, and pour so much love into our Wildcats.

Our students are better because of you. Our school is stronger because of you. And we are so incredibly grateful for everything you do — often behind the scenes without recognition.

Thank you for loving kids the way you do and for making MWE such a special place to learn and grow. We appreciate you more than words can say. 💚🐾

Happy Principal’s Day to the very best around, Mrs. Mia Neckel. MWE and the SLSD are so lucky to have such an incredible leader. She knows every student’s name, family, and interests, making each child feel seen, valued, and important the moment they walk through our doors. She leads with heart, compassion, and high expectations, always putting students first while supporting staff and families in countless ways behind the scenes.

Mrs. Neckel truly embodies our core values and shows what authentic leadership looks like each and every day. Her dedication, kindness, and tireless commitment help make Miami Whitewater a place where students thrive, staff feel supported, and families feel connected. We are so grateful for all she does for our school community.
