🦴🌴 Yabba Dabba Doo! The 22nd Annual Scarecrows in the Gardens opens tomorrow at the Dothan Area Botanical Gardens and runs throughout October!

This year’s theme is “Animation,” and WEC is excited to present The Flintstones — “Powering the Wiregrass Since the Stone Age!” ⚡🪨

Be sure to stop by and check out Fred Flintstone, Barney Rubble, and their one-of-a-kind prehistoric bucket truck! We had a lot of fun bringing Bedrock to the Wiregrass this year!

🌿 DABG will offer FREE ADMISSION during its Scarecrow Open House on Sunday, Oct. 4, from 2–6 PM. Enjoy the scarecrows, walk the trails, and don’t forget to cast your vote for your favorite! 🗳️

🌟📚 We’re continuing our celebration of amazing educators throughout the school year! We’re excited to partner with 95.5 WTVY for Teacher of the Month!

🍎✏️Congratulations to our September Teacher of the Month, Jamie Weeks of Geneva High School! We loved surprising Ms. Weeks and recognizing the hard work and dedication she brings to her students each day.

Ms. Weeks received classroom supplies from Wiregrass Electric Cooperative, a gift card to Wharf Casual Seafood Dothan, a cookie bucket from Sweet & Sassy, and a custom plaque from Jackson's Trophies and Awards. 🎉

Accountability matters, especially when it comes to your cooperative’s finances.

As a member-owned electric cooperative, Wiregrass Electric understands that the dollars entrusted to us belong to our members. That’s why financial responsibility, transparency and accountability are built into how we operate.

✔️ Independent Annual Audits
Each year, an outside accounting firm independently examines WEC’s financial statements and issues an audit opinion. Those results are reported to our Board of Trustees, included in our annual reporting process, and shared with our members each year at our Annual Meeting. This year’s Annual Meeting will be held Friday, October 16, at 12:00 p.m.

✔️ Established Financial Controls
WEC follows established budgeting, accounting, approval and financial reporting processes designed to ensure cooperative funds are managed responsibly.

✔️ Additional Federal Oversight
As a Rural Utilities Service (RUS) borrower, WEC must also comply with federal accounting, reporting, lending and financial requirements, adding another layer of accountability beyond our internal controls and independent annual audit.

At WEC, being financially accountable isn’t just good business, it’s part of our responsibility to the members we serve!

Samantha joined Wiregrass Electric Cooperative in 2016 as a Member Service Representative-Cashier. After years of providing excellent service to our members, she brought that same dedication to our Engineering & Operations Department, where she continues to be a valuable part of the WEC team.

Samantha’s heart for service reaches well beyond the cooperative. She has represented WEC as a Wiregrass United Way Loaned Executive in Geneva County, helping support the important work United Way does throughout our local communities.

She has also invested countless hours in the Slocomb High School Band Program, serving as Band Booster Treasurer for five years and continuing to support the program today. Samantha is also active at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, where she has helped with Vacation Bible School, Christmas plays, and many other church activities over the years.

From serving our members to supporting our employees and giving her time to the organizations that make our communities stronger, Samantha has shown a true commitment to helping others.

Sam, a junior playing under Head Coach Ethan Holland, earned this week’s honor for his outstanding performance on the field. 💙🩶

Through our Operation Roundup Foundation and our partnership with WTVY News 4 in the Silent Heroes of the Wiregrass program, we are able to honor a hero each month in the Wiregrass area that gives back to our communities. Thank you to our members that participate in Operation Roundup. It’s because of them that we are able to give back to the communities we serve. Congratulations to Shamika Bonds!

‼️ IMPORTANT ANNUAL MEETING PACKET UPDATE‼️

📬 Corrected Annual Meeting packets are arriving in mailboxes!

👉🏽 Members who were affected by the unforeseen member mail file issue and received an incorrect Annual Meeting packet are beginning to receive their corrected packet.

👉🏽 Due to additional printing time that would have been needed for the Annual Report booklet, the corrected packet does not include another copy of the Annual Report booklet. Members can still view the Annual Report included in their original packet or access it online here:https://www.wiregrass.coop/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/26-2119-WEC-Annual-Report-Web-copy.pdf

👉🏽 We sincerely appreciate our members’ patience and understanding as we worked to correct this unfortunate member mail file issue. We also want to make sure you have the information you need. Below are answers to questions we have received:

Q: Can I vote in person instead of by mail?
A: Absolutely. Members have had the option to vote in person since Wiregrass Electric Cooperative was founded in 1939, and that has not changed. You can vote at our Hartford Office on Friday, October 16th from 10:00 am -11:30 am.

Q: Do I vote only for the trustee candidate in my district?
A: No. Members may vote in all trustee district elections appearing on the ballot. This has also been the case since WEC’s founding in 1939.

Q: Does WEC still hold an Annual Meeting?
A: Yes! WEC continues to hold its Annual Meeting, which is livestreamed on our page for members to watch remotely if they cannot attend. As indicated in the packet and other publications, the 2026 Annual Meeting is Friday, October 16th at 12:00 pm.

Q: Will someone be able to vote twice because of this error?
A: No. Only ballots submitted with valid registration information will be counted. Ballots are handled and verified by a third-party auditor and a Ballot Committee comprised of Cooperative members to ensure the integrity of the voting process.

Q: How do I know if I received the correct packet?
Check the registration card included in your packet. Your name, mailing address and member number should correspond with your Wiregrass Electric account.

Q: Does this affect my Wiregrass Electric account or billing?
A: No. This issue was limited to the Annual Meeting packet mailing. It does not affect your electric service, account, or billing.

Q: Did the corrected packets also get mailed out with errors?
A: Not to our knowledge. We are not aware of any errors with the corrected packet mailing. If you believe you received an incorrect corrected packet, please contact us so we can review it and verify your information.

🫱🏼‍🫲🏽Grow Dothan is a partnership for economic development housed at the Dothan Area Chamber of Commerce. Since 1994, Grow Dothan has helped create opportunities for business growth, investment, and job creation across our region.

From developments at the Sam Houston Industrial Park to the Geneva County Industrial Park, partnerships like these are helping move the Wiregrass forward. One recent example is ISA Alabama Corporation, located in Hartford, which has brought more than 80 jobs to our area. 🧳

A healthy cooperative starts with thoughtful planning, sound financial management and a commitment to the members we serve.

In this month's CEO column, “Healthy Outlook,” Brad Kimbro shares how Wiregrass Electric's strong financial position is helping us invest in reliability, manage rising costs and return nearly $1.6 million in capital credits to our members this year.

He also takes a closer look at how members' efforts to reduce electricity use during peak demand have helped lower WEC's overall demand and strengthen the cooperative for the future.
