150 years ago today, a barefoot troublemaker from a sleepy Missouri river town walked into American literature — and never left. 🎣

On June 9, 1876, Mark Twain’s The Adventures of Tom Sawyer was published. A century and a half later, it has never once gone out of print.

Here’s our favorite part: Twain wrote it during his Hartford years, and the first American edition rolled off the presses of Hartford’s own American Publishing Company. Tom Sawyer was born right in our backyard. 🏡

Swipe through for the whole story — the whitewashed fence, the real town behind St. Petersburg, and the line from the book that still stings 150 years on.

Come see where it all began. 🔗 Plan your visit: marktwainhouse.org
