Parents and communities deserve transparent data about how their schools and students are performing. Reversing course at this point would not only be costly, but detrimental to the long-term stability, accountability, and progress of Montana’s education system.

Montana’s Board of Public Education will consider continuing the new incremental testing system for 3rd to 8th graders and a new contract for the company administering the exam.

“Allowing college instructors to teach dual credit courses without jumping through additional licensure red tape is common sense. Removing this unnecessary hurdle means more opportunities for Montana students to earn college credit early, explore career pathways, and get ahead while still in high school no matter their path. “

Montana’s Board of Public Education unanimously approved a proposal to remove licensure requirements for college professors who want to teach dual enrollment courses this summer in a rulemaking hearing Friday.

I hope everyone had a great Teacher Appreciation Week! One of my favorite things as a former educator and now superintendent is seeing learning in action, students engaged, teachers inspiring, and classrooms full of curiosity.

College debt is real, that’s why here in Montana schools, I’m focused on creating more pathways to success for our students. By investing early and expanding opportunities such as work based learning and industry-led career pathways, we can help students build careers, skills, and futures without being buried in debt.
Montana is fortunate to have affordable in-state college options and strong short-term credentialing programs that help students get into high-demand careers faster and with less debt.

A degree should set graduates up for success – not trap them in lifelong debt.
