Last weekend, several of our personnel participated in the Tennessee Fire and Codes Academy Emergency Vehicle Driving Simulation Course during Smoky Mountain Weekend.

This valuable training placed our firefighters in a variety of realistic emergency driving scenarios, helping them develop safer driving habits, improve decision-making skills, and increase situational awareness while operating emergency vehicles.

The simulation course challenged participants with a range of conditions and hazards they may encounter while responding to emergencies, reinforcing the importance of defensive driving and the responsibility that comes with operating emergency apparatus.

Training opportunities like this are essential to ensuring our personnel are prepared to respond safely and effectively when called upon. We are proud of our members for their commitment to continuing education and professional development, and we appreciate the instructors and staff at TFACA for providing this outstanding training experience.

Training today helps ensure a safer response tomorrow.

At approximately 19:22 hours, Paint Rock Fire Department was dispatched to the area of 1600 Paint Rock Road for a reported single-vehicle motor vehicle accident. Brush 1 and Engine 802 responded to the scene.

Upon arrival, crews located a single vehicle off the roadway in a ditch, with the rear of the vehicle resting against an embankment. The driver had self-extricated prior to the arrival of emergency personnel. During the initial vehicle assessment, crews observed light smoke coming from the trunk compartment.

Due to the position of the vehicle, fire personnel were unable to gain full access to the trunk area. Crews deployed a fire extinguisher into the compartment to suppress and prevent any potential fire extension.

Fire personnel remained on scene to provide traffic control and scene safety operations until the vehicle was removed from the roadway. All Paint Rock Fire units cleared the scene and returned to service at approximately 20:29 hours.

Fortunately, only minor injuries were reported.

At approximately 09:29, Paint Rock Fire was dispatched to the area of 1600 Paint Rock Road for a reported vehicle vs. bear incident. Brush 1 responded to the scene.

Upon arrival, crews located the vehicle still in the roadway. The suspect, described as a juvenile bear cub, had already fled the scene into the nearby woods before emergency personnel arrived. Fortunately, the vehicle sustained no damage,
and no injuries were reported.it appears the cub may have simply been attempting an unauthorized road crossing possibly while searching for a few “pic-a-nic baskets,” according to unofficial sources.

On a serious note, we are fortunate that no one was injured in the incident.

Fire personnel had the driver move the vehicle from the roadway onto a nearby side street while a report was completed.

Brush 1 returned to service at approximately 10:05.

Behind every freedom we enjoy stands the sacrifice of a soldier who was willing to give everything for this nation.

Memorial Day isn’t just another holiday weekend. It isn’t about cookouts or sales. It’s about the men and women who stood on freedom’s front line and never came home.

John 15:13 “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.”

This Memorial Day, let us never allow the sacrifice of our fallen heroes to become just another date on a calendar. Their courage purchased the freedoms we often take for granted, and their memory deserves our deepest respect, gratitude, and honor.

we remember the brave. We honor the fallen. And we thank the families who continue to carry their legacy every single day.
