We are proud to share something that meant a great deal to us đź’™
On July 1st, during DeafBlind Awareness Week, ASL Communication had the honor of sponsoring a DeafBlind Sensitivity Training — partnering with CSD Works Nevada and MultiPoint Contact to bring in the wonderful Yashaira “Yash” Romilus (she/her/ella) and her Protactile interpreter, Tomeka N. King (she/her/they), to lead a hands-on introduction to Protactile (PT) language: a communication system built on touch, trust, and connection.
The workshop brought together Deaf and DeafBlind community members, interpreters, and ASL students for hands-on learning about how the DeafBlind community communicates, builds relationships, and connects through touch. It was a moving and meaningful experience for everyone who took part.
Here’s what suprised us the most: registration filled up in under three hours. 🙌
That kind of response says everything about how ready our community is for more DeafBlind access, education, and connection.
We’re hoping to sponsor another workshop in Nevada later this year — because every individual deserves the access, resources, and tools they need to thrive.
Thank you to CSD Works Nevada and MultiPoint Contact for the partnership, to Yash and Tomeka for sharing your knowledge and their hearts, to Honey Houston for reaching out and inviting us to sponsor this event, and to everyone who joined us. We can’t wait to do it again. 🤟
