🖤 Honored to have attended tonight’s meeting with Nevada Black Deaf Advocates (NBDA) – 39th Chapter! 👊

As CEO of ASL Communication, I joined Shala Hagen to learn more about this nationally recognized organization and explore ways we can get involved and support the Black Deaf community here in Nevada.

A special thank you to Obioma Officer for inviting me and my team to the table — grateful for the invitation and for the important advocacy work this organization is doing. Looking forward to building this partnership! 🤝

** If you’re interested in getting more involved, please reach out and we will send you the link!

Mitch Bartlett didn’t just teach a workshop. He built the whole arc.
Earlier this month, Mitch led a performance interpreting workshop at our Las Vegas office — twenty five interpreters, RID CEUs, and a real focus on what it takes to make the arts accessible to the Deaf community. Then, a week later, he brought that same group back together for the part you can’t teach in a classroom: a live Vegas show, made accessible.
Chase Brown’s show at Neonopolis was the finale, and Mitch got to interpret it. In his words, a dream come true. Huge thanks to Chase Brown for making sure ASL had a place in his show and treating accessibility like it belonged there — because it does.
ASL Communication was proud to invest in this workshop, and we’ll invest in the next one. The music, the laughter, the timing, the energy — Deaf audiences deserve all of it, and interpreters deserve real training to deliver it. Those aren’t two separate goals. They’re the same one.
Thank you, Mitch. You poured your heart into this and it showed. 🤟

thank you for everything you did to make this possible!

We are proud to share something that meant a great deal to us đź’™

On July 1st, during DeafBlind Awareness Week, ASL Communication had the honor of sponsoring a DeafBlind Sensitivity Training — partnering with CSD Works Nevada and MultiPoint Contact to bring in the wonderful Yashaira “Yash” Romilus (she/her/ella) and her Protactile interpreter, Tomeka N. King (she/her/they), to lead a hands-on introduction to Protactile (PT) language: a communication system built on touch, trust, and connection.

The workshop brought together Deaf and DeafBlind community members, interpreters, and ASL students for hands-on learning about how the DeafBlind community communicates, builds relationships, and connects through touch. It was a moving and meaningful experience for everyone who took part.

Here’s what suprised us the most: registration filled up in under three hours. 🙌

That kind of response says everything about how ready our community is for more DeafBlind access, education, and connection.

We’re hoping to sponsor another workshop in Nevada later this year — because every individual deserves the access, resources, and tools they need to thrive.

Thank you to CSD Works Nevada and MultiPoint Contact for the partnership, to Yash and Tomeka for sharing your knowledge and their hearts, to Honey Houston for reaching out and inviting us to sponsor this event, and to everyone who joined us. We can’t wait to do it again. 🤟

Today was one of those days that reminds me why I love being part of the ASL interpreting profession.
I had the privilege of attending the NAIE Conference at UNLV in Las Vegas, and I came away inspired. Being surrounded by educational interpreters who are so dedicated to learning, growing, and serving students was incredibly encouraging. The passion in the room was unmistakable.
Every workshop provided practical ideas and new perspectives, but what stood out most was the heart of the people attending. So many professionals who genuinely care about helping Deaf and hard of hearing students have equal access to education and the opportunities they deserve.
At ASL Communication, we believe that when interpreters invest in their growth, everyone benefits—students, schools, families, and our communities.
Thank you to everyone who helped make today such a meaningful experience. I’m grateful for the chance to learn from so many and can’t wait for another day of learning tomorrow.
Together, we’re making a difference—one student, one interpreter, and one conversation at a time.

What an incredible day at the transition camp for our graduating students! 🎓

We had the joy of handing out computers to help these amazing young people as they take their next steps — into college, careers, and whatever big dreams they’re chasing. Our hope is simple: keep learning, keep dreaming, keep achieving. The future is yours.

And we didn’t forget our students who are still in school! We gave out prizes to celebrate how far they’ve already come and to cheer them on as they keep moving forward. Every step counts, and we’re so proud of each of you.

To every student we met today — thank you for inspiring us. We can’t wait to see where you go. 💙

CDIs are not a supplement to a hearing interpreter team. They are part of it. Hearing interpreters have a role in advocating for CDI inclusion — in scheduling, in agency conversations, and in how teams are built from the start. That work doesn’t fall on CDIs alone.
