Our Quarterly Disaster Recovery Partnership Community Stakeholders Meeting brought together organizations from across our community to focus on one thing: strengthening recovery through collaboration.

We are so proud of the core team of disaster case managers we have built to serve Henderson County and are grateful for the eight organizations that are working together to provide critical case management services. Recovery work is never done alone, and meetings like this remind us just how powerful partnership can be.

Thank you to every organization, advocate, and community leader who continues showing up for Henderson County.

Together, we move recovery forward. United is the way!

Volunteer to build bicycles!

Bikes 4 Kids NC believes every child deserves the simple joy of owning a bicycle. We understand that a bike is not just a mode of transportation; it symbolizes freedom, empowerment, and the pure exhilaration of childhood. In partnership with United Way of Henderson County, Bikes 4 Kids NC raises funds annually to gift bikes to local families in need during the holiday season.

Volunteers are welcome to sign up to participate in the Bike Build Day on Friday, June 12 at Mills River Brewing Co.. No previous experience or skills are needed. Members of Tempo Cyclisme cycling club will host the build and provide all the tools and training necessary. There is a task for all skill levels -- from unboxing bikes to breaking down cardboard to assembling handlebars to airing up tires. Volunteers may be asked to lift up to 20 pounds. Individuals, groups, and businesses are welcome to participate.

Does the weekend of rain and flooding have you feeling overwhelmed, exhausted, anxious, angry, numb, or emotionally drained? This can happen after a disaster. Helene affected more than homes and roads - it also affected stress levels, routines, relationships, and emotional well-being. Support is available.

Our Community Resources webpage includes updated information about a variety of resources available as our community continues to recover from Helene and our residents face new, unexpected set-backs. A new flyer has been added under the heading Supporting Mental Health After Disasters.

Last night was a powerful example of what can be accomplished when the community comes together!

Power of the Purse, hosted by Women United, brought the importance of supporting the mental health of women and children in Henderson County to the forefront. With over 90 guests in attendance at a beautiful venue with wonderful food and drinks, it’s easy to say that a great time was had by all.

Most importantly, two very deserving local programs will be awarded grants funded by this event. Our Women United members nominated and voted for Sources of Strength (Henderson County Public Schools) and Girls EMpowered to receive the proceeds. These programs are centered around creating safer, more supportive spaces for young people across Henderson County. Our goal was to award least $5,000 per program and we exceeded our goal! POP truly is a party with a purpose!

Thank you to our amazing Women United members and to everyone who donated auction items to the event.

Thank you to our generous sponsors who made the event possible:
GOLD: Stuller Power Solutions
SILVER: UNC Health Pardee
BRONZE: Blue Ridge Community College, The Chipriano Family, Cooper Construction Company, SELEE Corporation, Self-Help Credit Union, Western North Carolina, United Community Bank,
PoP the CORK: Realty ONE Group

Thank you to our vendor partners:

It takes a village and we’re so appreciative and proud of ours. United is the way!
