He attended Galt Schools where he excelled in many sports and the Future Farmers of America. Larry loved being raised as a “country boy” and he was very proud of the fact that his parents actually owned the Herald Store. Larry always had a mischievous side to him so he and his friends were always looking for the next great adventure in the fields around the Galt/Herald area. Army ended Larry set h
is sights on becoming a Sacramento County Sheriff Deputy like his father had been. Larry was hired by the Sacramento Sheriff’s Department after his graduation from the police academy. Larry worked in the jail and on patrol his first few years of employment. He was selected to be a Motor Officer which is an elite unit within the Sheriff’s Department. Larry was very proud of being a Motor Officer and he absolutely loved his job. Larry was tragically killed in the line of duty on November 12, 2008. His death came as a great shock to his family, his friends, and the entire law enforcement community. Larry left behind his wife Michelle and their two sons, Tylor and Bryce. He was a great husband, dad and a friend to all that knew him. To honor the memory of Larry, his family and friends decided to establish a scholarship in his name at Galt High School. The money for the first $1,000.00 scholarship was donated by his family and friends and it was given2009. To raise money for future scholarships the “Canfield Memorial Games” were created. All the events are based on things Larry loved to do and the different aspects of Larry’s life. Co-ed teams of four will participate in three different obstacle courses and five other events. The teams will do a variety of crazy tasks such as riding a tricycle while their partner (on the back of the tricycle) shoots an air-soft gun at targets, push a car forward and backward through a serpentine course, dress a dummy while handcuffed together, and many more wacky events. It will be like nothing you’ve done before!!! Come join us on September 14 at the Herald Barn.
