11/04/2021

Save the date, our annual Tree Lighting event will be held on Sunday, December 5, from 3:30-5:30pm. We will be holding all of the traditional things we have done in the past: i.e. collecting canned food, unwrapped toys and gentle used coats.

As for how the event will work: last year we had an extremely modified event were Santa road in on the back of the Fire Truck just in time to light the tree. This year, we are getting a little closer to how the program had traditionally been held pre-pandemic, but there are a few changes from prior years as follows...

For example:
(1) This year's event will start earlier. We will begin at 3:30p with games, cookie decorating, ornament decorating, entertainment, photos with Santa, Starbucks (coffee and hot chocolate), and more.

(2) Another notable change to the event is that we will end with the lighting of the tree at dark (we anticipate about 5:30pm). Once the tree is lit by Santa, the event will come to a close. And...

(3) The event will be held outside of the Community Center masks will be encouraged.

NOTE: in the event of rain, the event will be cancelled. A rain hotline will be set up and shared with the community prior to the event.

Here is the flyer about the event. Please save the date. Any questions, please contact the Hercules Parks and Recreation Department at (510) 799-8291. We look forward to seeing you all here on December 5!

In addition to our annual Trunk or Treat event, we tied in the Scarecrow contest to the event, which gave us the opportunity to create unique decorations for the Trunk or Treat, but also gave the community an opportunity to get involved with a fun project.

Please see the photos from the 2021 Scarecrow contest below. We had 2 categories: Traditional and Whimsical. The winner of the traditional category was the Boy Scouts Troop 76 with their Boy Scout scarecrow. And the winner of the Whimsical category was the East Bay Silver Dolphins with their swimmer and dolphin scarecrows.

We'd like to thank all those that participated in the event this year, and all of those that voted at the Trunk or Treat event. We'd also like to thank Starbucks for donating coffee and hot chocolate to all the folks that came to the event. It was an amazing turnout from the community, and we were so pleased with the event.

Be on the lookout for our next event - the annual Tree Lighting event, coming up on Sunday, December 5, at the Community Swim Center.

We just wanted to share a recap of the 2021 Trunk or Treat event...

First of all...WOW!!! Over 1,100 kids (2,000+ people) in two and a half hours at the Community Swim Center. What a fantastic turnout from the community. Here is a quick look back at the event in pictures (see below) from Friday, October 29.

The City of Hercules Parks and Recreation Department would like to BIG Thank you to all the cars (people, organizations, City Recognized Nonprofit groups, etc) that decorated their vehicles - as you will see in the photos on this post.

We'd also like to thank our partners who dedicated their time in pre-event preparation and/or at the event, and those that donated candy especially Rotary - Interact, the Bayfront Chamber and Phillips 66. We had Commissioners, Councilmembers, the Mayor, and many others in attendance. Staff and volunteers were absolutely fantastic! And we would like to thank the Hercules community for coming out to celebrate with us. We hope you had as good of a time as we did! Thank you all for your help and support.

Be on the lookout for our next event - the annual Tree Lighting event, that will be coming up on Sunday, December 5, at the Community Swim Center.

Please join us for our 3rd Annual Trunk or Treat event tomorrow night, Friday, October 29, at 6p at the Community Swim Center.

We will be following COVID protocols like masks and social distancing. But also, we will be asking those in attendance to START in front of the community center, and go through the course 1 time. Stop along the way to play games, get your treats, place your votes for the best decorated cars...and Scarecrows.

That's right, our Scarecrow contest will come to an end tomorrow night. To vote for your favorite scarecrow, you have to attend the Trunk or Treat event. We look forward to seeing all of the costumed kiddos tomorrow night.

Some of you may not be aware the City provides free sandbags, and sand, for any Hercules resident who may need them. The Sand Mounds are located on the back edge of the parking lot behind the trailers at City Hall and the back edge of the parking lot at the Community Swim Center. Public Works has replenished the sandbags, and replaced the shovels. Residents may come fill sandbags whenever they need them.

Contra Costa has sprayed for mosquitoes at Frog Pad and i have also notified about the pests at Refugio and Woodfield. They will be spraying soon. They said they have notified the city, and so have I, about the inadequate up keep near areas of standing water. If you have issues with mosquitoes, request service at
FYI citizens near frog pad park, I called mosquito abatement to handle the mosquito problem near the park. You're welcome.
did you know teachers in our community need your help?

Hi everyone! I recently started teaching adult wellness classes with a focus on using all natural, plant based, essential oil-infused products to help support overall wellness. These classes are FREE and open to all adults in Hercules and the surrounding communities. I love sharing what I know and helping others on their wellness journey. I host one class a month, and the topics are always changing. I always touch on some of the harmful chemicals that are found in everyday products like toothpaste, shampoo, candles, laundry detergent, etc., how those chemicals impact your body, and then we learn how we can ditch them and switch to a toxin free version. I would love for you to join me for a class so you can learn what is hiding in the products you use everyday, and how you can make positive changes and take control of your wellness. Here's a list of upcoming classes. My website is in comments below. You can go there to learn more about me, view class information, and register. Again, it's FREE, but space is limited, so registration is required. I need your help to spread the word to all the members of our community. Please share this with anyone you think might be interested in learning more about all natural alternatives. See you soon at a class! I can't wait to meet you. September 18th: Back to School Essentials October: Winter Wellness November: Green Cleaning December: Make and Take - Holiday Gifts
The average person applies over 100 chemicals directly to their body every morning getting ready for work. Day after day, that wears your body down, and has a negative impact on your wellness. Come join me for a FREE class on how you can switch over to all natural, oil-infused products from Young Living Essential oils. The class is open to all adults age 18 and older. Space is limited, so registration is required. See you soon.
These two sweet dogs were running around at the Hercules Avenue and San Pablo intersection by themselves 10 minutes ago. We didn't want them to get hit with the on coming traffic so they are in our backyard right now. Unfortunately these two sweeties have collars without tags! If anyone knows who they belong to please PM me!!
