We're gonna try this again. We are hiring for a full-time police officer position. Preference will be given to full-time certified officers. Starting pay is $17.00 per hour with additional compensation for certified officers based on the number of years of verifiable certified experience. All applicants must fully complete the Herington Police Department Application and Personal History Statement to be considered.
Application deadline is December 31, 2018 at midnight.


On December 1st the Herington Police Department responded to 11 West Main Street (Thriftology) for a report of damage to property. A small hole was found in the front window of the business and the window was shattered. If you have any information regarding this crime, please contact us.


On November 15, 2018 at approximately 1630 hours the Herington Police Department and US Marshal Service executed an arrest warrant at a residence in Herington. Jack Dangel (28) of Iowa was taken into custody without incident. Dangel was wanted by the US Marshal Service for violating the terms of Federal supervised release.

On May 27, 2017, Aaron Biehler was found deceased in his home in Herington, Kansas. This investigation has remained open. The Herington Police Department is seeking the public's assistance with the investigation. We are experiencing technical difficulties and as a result we do not have internet or phone service. If you need assistance, please call Dickinson County Dispatch at 785-263-1968 or come down to the police department and meet with an officer. We will advise when we are back to normal operations.


Yesterday evening, the Marion County Sheriff's Office located and apprehended Ronald Pierce Jr. He was arrested for Possession of Methamphetamine and booked into the Marion County Jail where he is being held without bond pending first appearance. He is also being held on a Dickinson County District Court warrant related to the search warrant conducted by Herington Police Department on October 23rd. Good job Marion County SO!

5. Black in color “Homelite” LR 5500 Gas Generator.
6. Green in color Electric Black&Decker Weed eater, Orange in color electric weed eater 20.V, Small “Workx” Orange in color electric weed eater (a total of 15 weed eaters)
7. 7.0 Red in color Craftsman gasoline mower engine.
8. Black in color Honda gasoline mower engine.
9. Three unknown make vacuum cleaners (Green, Black and Gray)
10. 5 small dated outboard motors (all metal, gray or silver in color)
11. 3 circular saws.
12. Dewalt Dw257 electric Dry wall screw driver.
13. Black in color craftsman Jigsaw.
14. Blue in color ford 3050 peak 4 Gal. gasoline generator (Serial Number FG151231-01-5983)
15. Red in color “All Power” 3,500 generator (Serial number 080817207)
16. Red in color “Victory” Hoverround style chair.
17. Black in color 125 psi Husky air compressor
18. Black in color Craftsman “Professional” 150 psi. air compressor.
19. Blue and black in color “Catpumps” gasoline power washer (Serial number SF30G; 5441)
20. Red in color unknown make scooter and one black in color unknown make scooter with a red in color sticker “Fusion” on the right hand side. Luggage rack or hard cover saddle bag, is affixed to the back.
21. Three green in color John Deere riding lawnmowers.
22. One small all metal boat, approximately 12 foot long.
23. Set of football and baseball cards.


Ghouls, goblins and candy are right around the corner! Be safe this Halloween, community. HPD will have extra officers on patrol to assist with helping our children have a great time. The City of Herington does not have specified times for trick or treating. But, one good "rule of thumb" is to only allow your children to go to homes that have a porch light on. Happy Halloween!

On October 25, 2018, the Herington Police Department responded to a report of sexual assault. Following the investigation, Daniel Roman (30) of Herington, was arrested for Aggravated Indecent Liberties With a Child and transported to the Dickinson County Jail where he is being held without bond, pending first appearance.

Yesterday officers from Herington Police Department executed a search warrant and warrant arrest on South 5th Street. The search warrant produced methamphetamine, marijuana, cocaine, drug paraphernalia, items involved with drug distribution, and some possibly stolen items. These items resulted in multiple felony and misdemeanor charges.

Last evening, during a traffic stop, our officers discovered 36 grams of marijuana, methamphetamine, various paraphernalia including a scale, and several individual baggies among other things.

Again, all from a traffic stop.

We have said it before...we won't stop.



On 9/2/2018 the Herington Police Department executed a search warrant on south G street. The warrant resulted in one arrest, drug related charges, and non-drug related charges for the arrestee.

We have breaking news from Jewell County this morning.


We just wanted to take a moment and thank everyone that came out to the lake tonight to help us look for a missing child. Everything turned out just fine and the child was found.
